Please post the arrangements.
Jimmy was my first mentor. I started working for him when I was 15 years old and my love of radio came a lot from him. He was the manager of WFOM when I met him and started hanging around the station after school but then bought the station. His graduation gift to me was a full time job. WFOM was a 1000 watt AM station but many people would tell you it was one of the most influential radio stations of the rock and roll era. On Friday nights you could find all of the top record promo men in Atlanta at WFOM with Jimmy sitting around listening to new records and Jimmy deciding what new ones to add. I did the midnight till six shift... so I got to play a lot of records for the first time.
I haven't spoken to him in a while, but I will always remember him for what he taught me and for carring about a 15 year old kid that just wanted to be in radio.
He was a great man.

A great programmer who gave more young guys a start in radio than just about anyone else in Atlanta. Although I worked for his competitor Jim Wilder, it was Jimmy Davenport who took me aside on several occassions and tought me the ins and outs of radio sales and a lot about radio programming. I have fond memories of many an evening on South Cobb Drive with Jimmy. It was Jimmy who first introduced me to KB and Bill Drake. I will forever be in his debt! Let's hoist a bottle of Jack Black in Jimmy's honor!
Edited by jr on 12/07/05 10:10 PM.
