I hear he's out at WFTL. Website is a little cryptic. His page is missing, but he's still mentioned on the site.

???

No great loss. He was a low-rent Neil Rogers wannabe whose entire shtick was ragging on Joyce Kaufman, as if he had the talent and ratings to back it up. I stopped listening months ago. Good riddance.

Any time a local show is lost (other than an infomercial or brokered show), it's a loss. It amazes me that South Florida, which supported six mostly local English-language talkers in the 80's (WIOD, WGBS, WNWS, WINZ, WJNO and WPBR) can't keep one all-local or mostly-local talker going in 2008. So what if he was a low-rent version of Neil? Look at how many fifth-rate Limbaugh clones have steady jobs behind a microphone.

Hey, there are plenty of people looking for gigs. It's not their fault that station management won't pay them what they're worth. And just because the cheaper alternative is from here that doesn't make any more listenable if the host has zero talent and every other word out of their mouth is 'ok' or 'umm.' That loser? Relax, I understand he'll be overflowing the couch on CBS 4 every weekday morning. As for WFTL, Joyce Kaufman will now be on until 5, so you'll get your local host.

Joyce Kaufman is the most unlistenable, whiny-voiced person to ever speak a word on the radio. But then again, she works for James Crystal.....where the landlord is about to padlock the door...that pretty much speaks volumes in and of itself. Cheap air talent for cheap employers. WFTL is a 50kw flamethrower and they barely showed up in the latest Miami/Ft. Lauderdale trends. West Palm Beach probably won't be much better. South Florida talk radio for English speaking folks is basicall non-existent and the few live and local shows are pretty bad.

WFTL either usually ties or is just a few tenths of a point below WJNO in West Palm. That's not bad at all.

Joyce Kaufman may be un-listenable to you, but she has a pretty good following. She's been around for something like 15 years. THAT in itself says alot about her. Who else other than Neil Rogers has had a run like that locally? Steve Kane, who pays for his show, doesnt count. :)

Joyce Kaufman is unlistenable to anyone under the age of 65. Most of her audience is in the 75 to Death demo. That's why she hawks cemeteries and tons of doctors. And the only reason she's been around so long is that she works cheap. If she tried to go anywhere else that there was an opening, they would throw her aircheck in File 13. Remember, WFTL is part of James Crystal where the owner, Jim Hilliard, is selling off all of his houses and cars and anything else that isn't nailed down just to pay off the lawsuits from creditors and former advertisers who never got their spots aired.....not to mention the landlord who, like I stated in my previous post, is just about to padlock the door for non payment of back rent. He is staying out of the United States and travelling from country to country so that the process servers can't catch him and thus exposing him to the courtroom. And to compare Joyce Kaufman to Neil Rogers who is a genuine, credible talent (whether you like him or not) that represents millions in revenue is like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes. And you're right about Kane who is a non-entity and a "has-been who never was".

Considering, WIOD doesn't cater to WPB vs a station that is heavy WPB centric. That's pretty sad. James Crystal should just stick to WPB and they'd be fine. I think their issue is that they try to make themselves something they're not and will never be. A viable Mia/Ftl. station.

The comparison of Neil Rogers & Joyce Kaufman is absolutely laughable.

Erm... I think the only similarity that was drawn between Joyce and Neil is that they've both been on the air regularly for a long time while most of the others have either left town, quit or now pay to be on the air. Outside of there's no comparison.

Back to the matter @ hand. (Since the thread was hi-jacked) Thank goodness I don't have to hear anymore of that awful music. I was the one having to play ALL those awful songs. I honestly didn't give a s**t what song played next, I just went alphabetical in the list of songs. What I was more concerned about was making sure the elements were tight.

FYI, James Crystal owner Jim Hillard now lives in Dallas, where he also owns a station. (Not exactly on-the-run.)
They are doing some kind of upgrade on that station's signal because JCR bought some station in Oklahoma on a adjacent frequency and turned it off.

If Hilliard really is permanently living in Dallas, then this question begs to be asked......How long will it be until the Dallas authorities are knocking on Hilliard's door with documents summoning him to court to face the warehouse-full of lawsuits against him and his dubious way of doing business? He has been flying under the radar for some time. Now its time for him to be a man and own up to his responsibilities to his creditors and his old advertisers that never got their spots aired. Probably the real truth is that he is staying with a relative very temporarily and is still on the run. With all the lawsuits and debts owed by JCR, where did they get the financing (or some poor sucker to put up some money that he'll never see again) to buy a station in Oklahoma? Hilliard lives and dies by three letters......OPM (Other People's Money).

And techno 935, I don't really think you had to worry about being tight on that show. Defede is so fat that he was plenty tight in the studio chair (how did that beached whale ever get on his feet without shaking the Richter Scale?)!!!!

Well they both love men... actually that's a huge assumption where Joyce is concerned.

Hey, don't knock Steve Kane. He's a hot lead-in for the NHC Colon Cleansing Power Hour or the Funeral Planning Show or whatever brokered crap that comes on after him. ;)

I hear he's now in favor of it, they promised they'd fill it with pudding for him.
