Jim Donovan to co-anchor with Robin Swoboda at 7..

Good for Jimmy.

He's in the elite tier of Cleveland media, and deserves a chance to branch out from sports.

Gotta wonder though...could JD be getting groomed to take over the big anchor chair in a year or 2 if Russ Mitchell leaves for a big national gig?

Off to the side in this blog I see they're still accepting applications for a weekend weathercaster.
A.J. must be having a good laugh at them these days.

And STILL! no word on Russ' co-anchor at 6 & 11.

WTVJ in Miami did a similar thing in 1992, taking longtime sportscaster Tony Segrato to the 5pm anchor slot (although it was an hour, Tony was solo, and it was more news-oriented). Tony then assumed the station's 6p/11p anchor slot 6 months later in the wake of Hurricane Andrew, where he remained until retiring in 2009.

So yeah, anything's possible.

A little closer to home and more recently, Rob Powers was sports director of WTVG-13 (ABC) in Toledo, but also was a co-anchor of the 5:30p news. This was until 2009, when Powers went to WABC-7 in NYC to be the weekend sports guy.

Also, current WOIO/WUAB morning co-anchor Brian Duffy was actually sports director of "!9 Action News" for a couple of years in the early 2000's. He then became a news reporter and eventually worked his way up to morning co-anchor with Lynna Lai.

Chuck Galeti was also a news anchor at 19 for a brief period of time anchoring the Channel 19 news at 4pm

Indeed, and I now remember watching him anchor the 4pm news at least once or twice. WOIO was experimenting a bit with the lineups after they hired the immortal Charlie Minn... plus it was in the middle of Chuck's very obvious career rehab effort...

Well, Mark Nolan still has his AMS and NWA seals of approval, and he is under contract until 3/14.

Perhaps he finishes out the string doing weekend weather?

I have a better chance, and I A) don't look good on TV and B) have no AMS or NWA seals.

They'll just pay out the remainder of his deal, assuming he hasn't given that up by leaving early.

In all honesty, the question was asked with tounge firmly planted in cheek ;)

I knew the chances of that happening were slim and none, and Slim just left town.

Heck, that's how TV-8 had Mike Keen finish out. And Mike was seal-free.
