Jim Ellis on the MSU Radio Network

How many people here on the board listened to Jim Ellis do the Memphis State game Thursday? What are your comments about it?

Outside of maybe losing his play-by-play place and reverting back to color, I think he showed he's the right man for the job. After having done color with Jack Cristil for so long I suppose you end up falling back into that. I think that he will show himself to be a quality replacement for Jack in this area, just as he has been the voice of the baseball Bulldogs for so many years.

As for Matt Wyatt, he is definitely going to add a lot to the broadcast. He sounded very knowledgable and will again make shutting off the TV souhd for the radio a much more likeable prospect.

I like Jim and the fact that he's been given the chance to be the head play-by-play man. I really didn't listen to much of the game, but I did listen to some of Matt's pre-game coverage and he's not bad. He used to be the QB for the Bulldogs in the late 90s, so it's good to get analysis from someone who not only played the game, but played for the teams he covers.

Jim is a class act. I worked with him at WSSO in the late 70's. He was in sales and doing high school play-by-play. Jim has the experience and "chops" for this gig. I wish Jim the best of luck.

No matter what the field, no matter how talented one is, it's always hard to follow a "legend" or an "institution." Pick whichever you like for describing Jack, but certainly good luck to Jim.

In sports, you almost never wanna be the guy who has to follow THE guy. However, given that Jim and Jack worked with each other for quite some time, it was only right to offer the job to Jim.
