Jim Hummel out at WLNE

They played comments from him in a WPRO newscast. He can't take pride in the news product there anymore. The ownership is pushing to sensationalize everything to increase ratings.

Sounds nutty to me. The station is becoming more popular, the ratings are going up, WLNE is finally experiencing some success for the first time ever..... and this guy goes and jumps ship during the high point? I just don't understand some people. I really don't.

Skynet --

I totally agree with you. In essence, he is saying that he was PROUD of his work at a third-rate station watched by no one?!? Talk about a legend in his own mind. Honestly, does it matter how good your work is if nobody is watching?

That being said, WPRI will probably snatch him right up...

I agree that WPRI may try to snatch him up, but I don't think that he'd go there since he took his stand based on sensationalism. That's all PRI has been about since LIN bought them.

I don't see any other Providence TV station hiring him at this point. He's good, but I think they are all happy with their current staff. I bet that The Providence Journal hires him though. Just a hunch.

I disagree. WPRI's style fits Hummel better than the trend of WLNE. Plus, I really don't think Susan Hogan is adequate enough of a investigative reporter.
