Jim Ladd Passes Away at 75

 
Surprised none of the obits mentioned his book. Maybe because it's been a minute since it was published:


The thing about him was he lived the life. He didn't just play the records. I think that's what a lot of his successors don't understand. It helps that he worked in LA, where a lot of the greatest music was being made. It also helps that FM radio was new, and it was playing the great music for people who also lived that lifestyle. He was there near the beginning, and he was young to still have fun. But unfortunately you don't stay young forever.
 
There is also a thread about Ladd on the Los Angeles section. The Mods may move it here possibly.

Ladd was from the era when many jocks cared about the music they played. They also had some freedom to pick the music. Listeners responded to it because it was entertaining, informative, and authentic.
I was fortunate to work at stations with PDs who understood that concept.
Ladd had a great run as a pioneer of Album Rock Radio. RIP...
