Jim Ladd to Host Talk Show Sat Nov 5 4p-7p

Funny photo on his Facebook page. Bitter? Ha!

So after getting dropped from Cumulus, he visits the other company that let people go last week. Irony?

If he thinks this gig is safer than the one he just left, he should ask Rick Dees.

Obviously he won't be the first DJ who did talk. Imus and Glenn Beck (and many more) made the same move.

He should consult with David Lee Roth about what NOT to say.

I think this is a onetime thing for Jim Ladd.

Those powers that be at KFI know what sells and they know Jim Ladd is going to bring some people over for a Saturday night.

I believe during his first run on KLOS in the early 70s he used to have a talk show on KABC on either Saturday or Sunday evenings.

The 'event' on the Facebook page wasn't created by him. Neither was the 'boycott' graphic. Both were created by fans.

This is his official page:

I'm sure he's bitter, but he hasn't badmouthed KLOS.

And another good thing about the KFI fill-in is at least we now know he isn't tied down by a non-compete.

Also, people are commenting on his Facebook page about a KFI show he did YESTERDAY. I don't see that listed on any of the KFI podcast feeds. Was that also Lisa Ann Walter's time slot?

Lisa Ann Walter is a total borefest at that time. I can't imagine Jim Ladd is any better. It's a tough slot but come on there must be someone halfway entertaining that they can put on - and no I don't mean Wayne Resnik.

Ladd hosting a talk show is not a good idea. His talent is in picking and playing records, not talking. His rants are generally run the gamut from illogical to insane and irrational and are rarely supported by any relevant facts. His politics have not evolved since Chicago in 1968 and for all he knows, it still is 1968 (maybe that explains so many Doors records.)

I know many people who have tuned him out over the years because of the tedious lecturing he sometimes engages in and his absolute hostility to conservatives. I think it is a big reason his show doesn't get the ratings it used to. Most everyone else has grown up and left the radical politics behind and the kids that are now engaging in all that Occupy nonsense don't listen to classic rock and the Doors. In other words, his politics fragmented his own audience.

I think some of you people are reading the wrong thing into all of this. This is not a permanent gig. It's a one-off, mostly to say goodbye to his fans (for now) and perhaps gab a bit.

Believe me, I highly doubt he would jump so fast at a permanent talk weekend shift on KFI only a week after leaving KLOS. He'll take some time to weigh opportunities. And his first priority for a job would be to spin records the way he wants.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Jim Ladd on LA Radio. He is/was more of a historical memory for me, as his rants today seemed outdated, misguided and overly political. When he focused on the MUSIC, that is where he was/is the best. I didn't tune in to his shows like I did in the 70's, and probably won't wherever he ends up, but I certainly wish him the best. Lots of good memories from him! Thanks Jim!

This exactly reflects my observation from above. Maybe now is a good time for Jim to re-evaluate his whole presentation and challenge himself to make a fresh change at this stage of his career. He could do a great show that is 100% focused on the music without being overtly political. It would be a requirement if he went to work for the Sound and I am quite sure both the quality of his show and his ratings would improve.

Otherwise he could take the easy way out and be a fringe left-wing talker with a miniscule audience just like Nicole Sandler. But before taking that road, he should observe what has become of her career since she made that choice.

I felt David Lee Roth would have been a great rock DJ, but he was an awful talk host. His time as talk host made it hard for me to enjoy his records. So I hope Jim Ladd doesn't fall into Roth's shoes.

Great points on both accounts (Ladd and Sandler), ChannelFlipper. I enjoyed Jim Ladd the best when he was on KMPC-FM/KEDG 101.9 1988-89. I didn't live in SoCal before 1985 so I didn't know all that much about him. And I also thought he did a good job on KLSX .... Even in the early days of his return to KLOS (starting in around 1998) he did not seem to go on all that many rants. Maybe that was because President Clinton was still in office. ;)

I hadn't listened to him very much in the last 8-9 years because, frankly, there's only so much Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, and Eagles music I can tolerate.

Good luck to Mr. Ladd and I also join others in hoping he'll land at The Sound which I still don't listen to anymore. (Sorry Dave Beasing) :)

Oh Jim went on his rants when Clinton was in office. I remember when the Monica Lewinsky scandal erupted. He went on all night, and I do mean all night about how ugly she was and how could BC have picked her. It was actually an ugly show with Jim getting pretty personal about her looks. She was no model, but still young and cute and I though Jim went the wrong direction altogether on that one.
