After five decades on the air, a legendary South Jersey radio host is trading in his microphone for retirement.
Each morning, thousands of listeners around South Jersey wake up to Jim MacMillan's velvety voice on 1230 AM WCMC in Wildwood.
His career as a radio DJ spans five decades and Jim said he recognized his calling when he was just a young boy, building a microphone out of tinker toys. "I would sit for hours in my bedroom with my microphone and a radio, newspaper, yesterday's and just play disk jockey."
It wouldn't be until many years later, while serving in Saudi Arabia as a security police officer for the United States Air Force, and after he had children of his own, that his childhood dream would finally come true when asked to take over for a DJ for the Armed Forces Radio. "I mean a guy just literally handed me a radio show," MacMillan explained of his sheer luck.
And since 1986 he's delivered the local news, shared warm fuzzy moments, played music trivia and given out over 1,400 pounds of fudge for prizes, all while spinning unforgettable hits, some of which he shows are still on vinyl.
