Jim McKay dies at age 86

Few other people "spanned the globe" with the success of Jim (McManus) McKay. His expertise will be long remembered.

Wow, and on the day that history could be made, Jim McKay was there when affirmed won the triple crown 30 years ago.

Without question he was the best sports host of the 20th century media.

Not one of the zillions of ESPN "personalities" can hold a candle to him.

It's a shame he never got to host the Super Bowl, World Series, or the NBA Finals.

But what a career and what a life.

I couldn't help thinking of McKay while watching the Belmont knowing that we really saw "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" today.

I watched Armen Keteyan's memorial piece on McKay last night on the CBS Evening News. I had no idea Sean McManus was his son until I saw that.
