Jim Nettleton sign off...

He said his goodbyes and thanked everyone, including the jocks and the listeners. Final song he played was "At the End of the Rainbow". One final show left for The Geator. Wonder if they will still play the automated music and shows like "At the Hop" and "On the road car tunes" till Monday's sports radio sign on.

I just heard it as well, and it was very nice.

I sincerely hope that GM makes the effort to have sports talk be a success. Although I'm sorry to see the oldies go (even from a poorly executed station), it will be interesting to see if they can take on WIP. I doubt it, but they may not have to be a ratings winner to be a success--or so others on these boards have claimed.

Right now Geator Gold Radio was on, he said he was taking a quick break, and ever since its been automated oldies and a Oldies 950 traffic bed. Kind of eerie though. Like a family moving away and leaving the radio on in an abandoned house.
Edit to add: 8 pm and The Geator is back on.
Edited by JoeyDee_WOGL on 10/01/05 12:00 AM.

Diamond Jim Nettleton is a class act...period. He, Charlie Bennett and Kim are three pros from back when being a pro actually meant something. Best of luck to those three gentlemen.

As for Mr. Blavat, the story is told that a beautiful woman once came by a WPEN remote while he was there. One of the interns turned to him and remarked: "Man, Geator...I'd like to screw her!". To which the Geator replied: "out of what?"

well it is sad to see the oldies go.WPEN tried.i never got to hear ed hurst all that much as i did when 950 was the station of the stars.and i kinda miss that format.ed will you ever put the "steel pier show" from the 70's.on video and or DVD?

I asked Ed Hurst that same question and many other questions relating to "The Steel Pier Show" in the courtyard outside of the Philadelphia zoo in the presence of JJ Jeffrey, Jim Nettleton, and Tom Moran at the cocktail party for the Radio Greats Reunion on WOGL almost 10 years ago. I was told that WPVI retained all copyrights to the program. Ed himself had none of the programs. From this point Ed is talking and Im not comprehending what he's saying something about dumpsters.
______________

Re: "Leave It To Geator"

That is an old joke, though it is good. You substituted Blavat for "a Jew." I am Jewish so don't censure me please.

by radio station remotes..:)

Except you, Ethel...you'd be a welcome addition at any remote. :)

Re: About The Joke

Now that I think about the joke, I first heard it in Philadelphia, when I lived there in the eighties. It was told to me by a salesman who had a half dozen jokes for any client he might run into and they were all good jokes.

By the way, I only gave you half of the joke. The version I heard was about a Polish guy and a Jew. I may be Jewish (with a Polish grandfather) but I would rather have a hot woman than cold cash.

Isn't that the way it always is? The hotter the woman, the more cold cash it takes.
