JIM O'BRIEN

Even after all these years...I still associate Jim O'Brien's big booming voice with the long-gone former "Country Giant"....1110 WHIM. In my mind's ear...I can still hear him doing the ID:

"Number 1 for Country since 1966....1110 WHIM, East Providence"

Yes that's him from a time when you actually needed a good voice, maybe not to get into radio but to be successful at it in the long term.

Jim is also voicing some spots for tv to. WHIM for a short period of time was on the FM dial at 94.1 as well. Jim was also morning guy at WCTK for a few years.

Jim was also the voice of 98.1 WMYS prior to July 28, 1989 (the exact day it switched to Country 98.1 and later "Cat" Country 98.1). I have an aircheck from December 1988 which includes him doing the legal... "Seasons Greetings from all your friends at 98.1 WMYS... with the best mix of favorites from the '60s, '70s & '80s... 98.1 WMYS... New Bedford-Fall River".

Jim was great on WHIM. That famous top of the hour ID for WHIM..."#1 For Country Since 1966...." was done by Jack J. Shannon.

Oops!....Guess my memory was a little faulty on that one. :-[

The point remains, however, that Jim is still terriffic at what he does...even after all these years.

I believe you hear him tagging the Slap Chop and Shamwow commercials running nationwide. (Saw it when I was in cali back in June)

Hey Guys - Someone at WPLJ said my name came up in September so - yep -That's me on the SlapChop/ShamWOW commercials. Believe it or not, it's a GREAT gig too! AND - Both Jack and I did the WHIM ID's back then. Thanks for remembering. That was a gazilion years ago. I am in NY these days with my own VO/production business -since 1992 in fact. I am back on air part-time with a MID-DAY radio thing on B103...check it out on line B103.com. Couldn't resist the offer to be live again, ya know! LOL!
