Jim Rome Leaving ESPN For CBS Sports Network

May or may not have to do with his recent demotion from ESPN (as lead-in to Pardon the Interruption, no less) to ESPN2.

Sad to see it leave ESPN/ESPN2; however if you're going to go to another network with an expanding role, it's really not all that bad.

The sad part is that it will not be in everyone's home; and at a time when people are dumping cable altogether, one wonders the

financial intake of the deal.

As for ESPN in general, I find it to be, at times with their studio shows very bored and mordane.

If you watch Sportscenter and how they do a story it goes like this:

1. Anchor talks story.
2. Shows clips of interviewing athlete
3. Shows video footage of athlete performing.
4. Back to interviewing athlete.
5. Shows Statistics.
6. Talk to Analyst.

It's a constant loop that won't die; Just like at the NFL on CBS during a game where they cut and paste (HORRIBLY) certain plays together to describe

an athlete's performance followed by a 2 second fast zoom slip (WHAT'S THE POINT?).

And of course ESPN's sponsored byyyy announcer in the studio shows is very annoying to listen to.

Thank goodness for the NBC Sports Network; hopefully when they do a baseball story on NBC Sports Talk, they will actually show MLB footage instead

of still photos soon.

I am very surprised the NBC Sports Channel didn't make a run after Jim Rome. I know that NBC is starting to beef up their sports programming, but Jim Rome would have been giving a better time slot and maybe expanded to an hour show. I think the NBC Sports Network are in more households than the CBS Sports Network.

As for ESPN 2, it's a loss (but not a major loss). It's about time the ESPN do have some major competition from NBC/CBS/Fox Sports Net. However, ESPN 2 has developed two show I like, "Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable" and "NFL 32."

I think that CBSSportsNetwork will eventually have talk shows all day long, ala Tim Brando and like what Dan Patrick is doing on DirecTV and FSN.

The talk shows for ESPN, most notably with the unwatchable Stephen Smith, Skip Bayless, and Tony Kornheiser are floundering and will take hits with competition from other Sports Nets.

I understand that one of the factors that led to Rome rejecting a new deal from ESPN was not only the demotion to ESPN2, but the fact that its new programs such as the Le Batard show were being promoted more than "Burning." Come on, they're new shows, they can use it.

One other obvious sign Rome was on his way out on ESPN? Burning was the last program to never pull the upgrade up to HD or move to the new ESPN facility at LA Live. If there's no other sign of a dead show walking these days (except for Top Model, which seems to be subject to Tyra's whims and won't upgrade until her ego is fit for HD), it's being stuck in the 4:3 box with no upgrade in sight.

It's not at all like Olbermann going to Current, as Rome isn't leaving for some fledgling startup: Rome's 'expanded role' beyond a daily talk show promises work on several platforms, including Showtime, CBS Sports broadcasts, and CBSSports.com.

not only that, but he's not an ESPN product beyond the TV show. Rarely was he anywhere else on the mothership and his radio show is on a competing network.
