Jim Schaeffer buying WDEX?

Look we got a laptop and Bill and I did a little nosing around this past weekend when we were visiting his grandmother in Forrest City. We went into Gastonia, and talked to a few of our radio insiders. They are speculating that Jim Shaeffer is getting ready to make a run at 1430 there in the next month or so. Evidently he has another silent partner a guy who owns two big shoe stores named Ewin K. Rounder (used to be spelled Raunder? or is it Rawnduur? not sure something German or Swiss or something I think) who has some pull with the current WDEX owners. They don't have the cash to upgrade the signal, and cash rich Schaeffer is eyeballing it to make his "Gold Oldies" format fly in the Queen City. Bill plotted it out, and 1430 could be increased to 30kw day with 5 towers protecting Indianapolis, and some station in NY, but still putting a solid signal over Charlotte. Apparently the original 1220 idea vaporized, but Jim Shaeffer won't give up and with all that "doe-ray-me" he'll do something big I'll bet. We got back to Arizona last night. Terrible weather there. Cold as hell. How do you guys drive in that? He could also move it to 1440 and protect Orlando huh? Either way it will be interesting to watch. I heaard he has taken the rear seats out of his car and installed those big Voice of the Movies speakers in there to listen to CDs with. I heard he is using that new station to sell Band of Gold Cds. What a guy huh?

Good bye

You have got to be kidding right? AM radio even though I love it is dead, it took me a long time to realize that. Just ask the many who have tried and failed to start a new AM station.

Kids, I hope you're reading this out there. See what drugs will do to you?

I know Jim SHAFER (not Schaeffer) personally. He is not buying a radio station. I asked him about this and he has no idea what this is. He plays in a band because he is a band geek and loves music, not so he can hawk CDs. He's been playing in a band since his days at WTDR in the early 90s. You really need to check your facts before spreading rumors that have absolutely no basis in fact.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would have a bad thing to say about Shafer. He is a true professional with a wonderful history in the business.

If you have any questions about it, call him in the studio at 102.9. I'm sure he'll squash the rumors himself.

Dear howard halland;
the real Jim Shafer here.....see my sign in name? it's really me. Enough people told me of your post on this board that I've registered and logged in so I can respond to you. eggman certainly hit it on the head with the drug reference. My gastonia experience is limited to earl tindol ford, Dino's nightclub and the now-defunct fish camp jam. I don't know anyone who owns a shoe store in gastonia, I have no plans to buy a radio station, gas station, comfort station, candi staton young hearts run free....wait a minute...I'm free associating here and getting off the point. I am not now, nor have ever been cash rich. I'm a working stiff on a radio station, as I have been my whole life, and nothing more. Nothing, and I repeat nothing, in your post was true in any sense....wait a minute, can i sell you a Band Of Gold CD? I've got about 500 left of the original thousand I had duplicated six years ago....I'll make you a deal. my email is
[email protected]

Come to the source if you have a question....thanks for your time.

You know this is the 2nd time the rumor has popped up. There was a post around November 15 about the new oldies station going up in Gaston County. Of course, we know that is WDYT.

OhMG I am SO sorry. I did not mean to start any problom. I remember may years ago in Ohio listening to Jim Shaffer and we enjoyed hearing him and he sounded like a good guy and all. I meant no disrespect. Please accept my apology and forgive me. My friend Bill and I just enjoy traveling around the country and enjoying radio and radio storys and radio people a lot, and I am so very sorry. I did not mean to offend you. I just had heard a lot about things and that is a problom I have I will stop listening to strories.

I am sorry Jim
bye bye I will not bother you

Howard

When I go to the mountains, I listen to country gold on WMNC.

Can't be done.
