or it may be A Man Called Sloane (obscure NBC show from '79),
but here in Tuscon--oops, Tucson ;D--it's Jim Slone.

...but how about some details?

Does this have anything to do with the Giant 580 rumors from
some weeks back?

Cortaro/Tucson market? Doesn't it usually go the other way?

I remember a few years back there was speculation that Tom Hassey was going to buy 1030 and bring IMUS in the Morning back and the the old Hot Talk format he had at KTUC...must have been just prior to The Jolt starting up.....Hassey is the anti-Slone of radio ???

According to Broadcasting & Cable, Slone paid $1.5 million for KEVT. That's actually not a lot of cash for a 10,000 watt station.

The story I've heard is that the format will be classic country, not at all unlike KCUB before Slone sold it to Citadel. When the sale took place a few years ago, Slone received over $60 million for his Tucson stations. Slone should have no shortage of working capital to make the new station a success.

KIIM recently was heard playing a Marty Robbins classic. Maybe they are concerned.

I heard that KIIM, concerned about the possibility of a REAL country station managed by a local owner who knows the market, conducted a seance to resurrect the late, respected Tom Maples, the first g.m. at 99.5 KNDE and the man who put country on the FM airwaves in the Naked Pueblo.

Maples is reportedly holding out for an all automated format using the old reel to reel machines in Ron's garage.

It has now been the better part of a year since the man with the midas touch launched KCEE. It has a strange music mix ranging from 1940s pop to 1960s country to Motown. KCEE has one of the lowest operating budgets in the market and it also has terrible ratings. Any thoughts?

??? Since I have returned to Tucson I have noticed a more oldies pop based formats now on KtUC and KGVY. The demos support that flavor of music for aging baby boomers where as the big band-early 50's sound does not have the BIG demos it had in 1985. Somebody who is 45 today in 20 years will not listen to a station on AM that plays music they did not grow up with. A really fun kick ass tight rock and roll format of the first ten years (55-65) would be fun in a growing sea of oldie stations here in Tucson.....

The music is too wide of a spectrum and, except for the hourly AP News, KCEE is essentially a "jukebox" relative to its competition. On a minor note, the audio sounds flat. I think 1030 would have done better with classic country.

Not to knock the observations posted here but Jim is doing exactly what he said he'd be doing with the station. He said that he was going to play what he wanted.
