Do my ears decieve me or do I hear Jim Vann actually plying his wit on the Kicks morning show again? Its good, I could always do with more Jim but its good

Jim is one of the best-kept secrets in Atlanta radio. Great comic voice, great timing. I always thought he should have gotten more credit for Moby's success. Super guy! (Ironically, I used him a few times for voiceovers and thought they were lacking!) IMO, Steve Mitchell is the best jock in the market for voicework. Deborah Reece at b98.5 is the best woman.

I'm not hearing him any more often than before, but I do notice the two girls both taking a bigger role in the morning show. I've never really given much thought to the idea of two female voices on a morning show, but now that I hear it I don't really care for it. I've always been a Kicks fan and was happy to see them replace Bandy and Bailey, but the new show just isn't doing it for me. I find myself checking out WNGC occasionaly, just for something different. And I'd still like to see another Country signal in the market...maybe 99X?

I usually listen on my way to work, 6:15 to 7:00. Today, I did a word count of Jim's actual spoken words on the air during that time. I am not referring to Jim's traffic reports, but his ad lib interaction with Craig, Jill and the new chick producer. Those three people were jabbering constantly, and most of the jabbering was between Craig and the producer. Jim spoke eight words, and two of them were "Oh, yeah."

AS I've said before in these pages, Jim Vann is one of the most talented people in this market. Super clever, impeccable comedic timing. It is a tragedy that he has been written out of the "script" of the KICKS morning show.

I'm no radio consultant, but I cannot fathom a management team that treats its most talented morning guy so badly. Could it be that Craig is threatened by that kind of talent in his studio? I can only conceive that it comes from a station that has no competition in this market, and is fat, dumb, rich and lazy.

I agree with you. The show with Jim Vann was so much better than it is with Kristin Gates (in addition to Jill Kelly).

That said, at least Kicks sounds like a major market station in the morning again.
