jimmy baron and dave a long term relationship

Jimmy Baron hits the DAVE-FM airwaves as the permanent morning show host Monday at 5:30am. His first benchmark to reach is 7 months, which is how long Zakk Tyler lasted. The next one is 1 1/2 years, that's how long Stephen Duane Barnes lasted. (I've just been sued.)

Without bashing the young man what do you think is going to happen with Jimmy and Dave. Is Jimmy finally the answer? Will he bring in respectable morning numbers? Who will be hurt in the market by his return? Will DAVE provided marketing/ad support for him? Has he been gone too long that his (Morning X) listeners have moved on and won't come back? Discuss.

My take is that Jimmy should have been installed before the Zakk Atakk (still copyrighted) Feb 2008. If DAVE provides support (billboards, ads in CL and SP, TV spots) Jimmy has a great shot of being successful on 92.9 in the morning. Something that hasn't happened in decades. No one hustles more than Jimmy, he will be getting local and national guests that other shows will not. He should not have a problem breaking the top 10 in 25-54 demo. If he does, that's a win. Signal strength may help him have a ratings war with The Regular Guys for that demo.

The pieces are in place. Margot Smith (MD) and Scott Jameson (PD) have the music where it needs to be. They have their highest Q rated personality in the top-rated day part (Mara Davis) and now they have a recognizable name on AM drive. It is sad that it took five years to get to this point but bad PD and morning show choices have held DAVE back for most of the decade.

Look, I love Jimmy, but he ain't a lead man... he's boring. Even with Yvonne on 2nd mic I don't see the show being a huge ratings winner. Jimmy loves to talk and talk and talk about the same subject matter... and with PPM feedback they'll see people dumping out when he starts to ramble. We'll see if he can adjust and keep the show moving and, here's the key, ENTERTAINING.

I feel bad for Orff. I think Dave should've kept him on with Jimmy... he could produce, do traffic, maybe provide a hipper, younger take on events..or even add some comedy with voices etc... He WASN'T making much. I'm sure he wasn't breaking their budget.

It was great hearing Jimmy Last summer with Yvonne. The one criticism I would have that he was prone to rambling and not really utilizing Yvonne much and just ignoring her. It was only one week so can really judge off of that but if he keep the show tight and interact with Yvonne I think it is a good fit for Dave. TRG will probably lose a little of my loyal listenership initially and from there we will see.

Plase tell me Crissy isn't producing. he needs some one stronger andnot someone who idolizes him but someone will kkeep hiim on terget.

LMAO.
Calandro needs to go to vo-tech school and learn a trade.
Unless you count doing trivia contests as a trade?

I've held my comments on this one for a few weeks now but the time has come. I'm having a hard time with the morning show at Dave. jimmy just can't do it. He's a nice guy-but just isn't funny, witty or topical. i can't understand why the PD is not giving more talk-time to Yvonne. She's quick, intelligent and always makes me laugh. Yes, i've been a fan of her's for years-but also a fan of jimmys. She's still got it...him, not so much. Not to beat a dead horse, but she an dorf would have been the perfect duo. it will be interesting to see the changes on this show over the next year.

Tim Conway and Yvonne Monet? Interesting.

Some folks are better suited for the team concept. When there is a change of one key person, the audience may or may not accept the change. Look at The Three Stooges as an example. When Shemp took over for Curly, something was missing. That's not to say that Shemp was any less qualified. In fact, he was funny in his own right, but it just wasn't the same. Now, suppose Larry decided to go solo. Could he sustain the audience with his act? Aside from being the foil for Moe and Curly, what was his role with the Stooges? He provided some comic relief, but nothing that was memorable.

My point? None really. Am I comparing Jimmy Baron to Larry Fine? Not necessarily.....

Can Jimmy be a good morning host on his own? Most likely, but he needs a good team behind him. Will CBS give his show time to grow and gain an audience? Who knows.....

It's probably safe to assume that Jimmy would MUCH rather be working in a team environment for all the reasons that have been spelled out here. Yeah, he can probably adapt to do doing the whole show solo but even he probably knows it's not his strong suit. I guarantee CBS not giving him any support is not his choice.
