Jimmy Baron says today was his last day

Baron said after the show today, he was told he wasn't going back on the air. After 12-plus years at 99X, he said he would have liked an actual goodbye a la Steve Barnes & Fred Toucher but that doesn't look likely. His boss Mark Renier told me there was no reason for him to say goodbye because there's still a chance he might still sign a deal. I don't get the impression that's likely to happen. Baron's last contractual day is Wednesday.

On my radio blog, the "he's past his prime" comments about Baron were rife.

Have you heard anything about how the Toucher/Crash/Rich "negotiations" went at WBCN in Boston?

the new morning show sucks, cumulus is cheap, and mark renier has no class. JB is better off going to S.F., but they could have at least let him say his good-bye.

There must be a passage in the GM/PD handbook that says don't give a popular announcer a final show.

I guess most GM/PD fear the audience reaction on air if it is an audience participation show. Also, they probably fear what an announcer could potentially say.

Speaking as an announcer, when you don't get to do a final show there is no sense of closure. Bad and an extreme analogy..its like a death without a funeral.

This happened to me on my last job. I wasn't given the option of doing a last show. I would not have bashed the guy who got rid of me on the air. Not so sure what my listeners would have done.

Mayvbe he will go out of town and hook-up with one of the Free FM stations then Come back to tAtlanta when they finally flip Dave to Free FM. Dave's only saving grace could be picking up the upper end of 99x's audience if it flips formats.

I am enjoying the Buzz mornings with Whip. I am not a big fan of slipknot, but I like some Marilyn Mansion and Rob Zombie with my coffee. Otherwise I am happy to have bought XM Radio.
