Jimmy deCastro To Retire As Entercom Chicago SVP/Market Manager

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...etire-as-entercom-chicago-svp-market-manager/

Jimmy deCastro is retiring from his post as SVP/Market Manager of Entercom Chicago.

deCastro, who joined Entercom upon the completion of its acquisition of CBS Radio in November 2017, will remain in place through mid-December and a successor is in place. In addition to running Chicago, deCastro also oversaw local management in Madison and Milwaukee WI for Entercom.

Jimmy deCastro will retire in December.

Not a shock, he's had a great run.

I think it is more than a coincidence that he is leaving while Entercom is cutting midday, night and production staff all over. That results in the kind of radio that Mr de Castro would likely not be pleased with managing.

The cuts at Entercom make no sense unless you look deeply at the Viacom / CBS re-merger. Shari Redstone was, reportedly, not in favor of selling radio. She can control, via the shares in Entercom that came through the Reverse Morris Trust, the board at Entercom if I look at it correctly (it's to say the least, complicated). If Entercom is not performing well, she might want to take control and run it like Dan Mason would have continued to do.

I smell fear. (But I am not an Entercom insider, so I could be way off on this... but I've been in the industry for a coupla' years and some things just seem "natural")

Now Rachel Williamson takes over Market Manager at Entercom's Chicago operations.

Cox Media Group's Gamut President/GM Rachel Williamson is appointed Regional President for Entercom's cluster in Milwaukee and Madison, as well as Market Manager for Chicago, beginning in 2020. She succeeds Jimmy de Castro, who is retiring. Previously, Williamson served as CMG's Director of Digital Revenue Development. Before joining Cox Media, she was the Director of National Sales at Cumulus Radio. Additionally, Williamson oversaw national and network digital sales as the Digital Specialist for the Midwest.

I think her experience in digital media will serve her well as head of the Chicago cluster. She has big shoes to fill.
