Jimmy Fallon's Small Tribute To Conan

Say what you will about his hosting skills. But I liked what Jimmy Fallon said/sang and did regarding Conan last night. I think Jimmy
knows he has big shoes to fill at 12:30am. And he respects the comedy tradition of 'Late Night'.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Jimmy Fallon couldn't fill a tea cup with talent or the shoes of any of the folks before him on NBC. He's a joke that will be a memory in a short while. He'll be out on his no talent ear soon enough.

I'm sorry Skipper, you must be part of the OLDER crowd who still misses Johnny Carson. Times have changed since you were young and Jimmy Fallon is the new face of Late Night. He is fun to watch and is very original with his show. As I have said in previous posts, ALL late shows are just long commercials for some new movie or show. They are incredibly boring and are only popular with older folks who 'long for the good ol days of Johnny Carson'. When you only had 3 channels. You probably didn't like Conan much either.

I think Jimmy does a just fine job and is still quite new to this job. He will learn what bits work and which ones don't. But it's his attitude toward the show that keeps me entertained. He treats his guests like his friends, and gets then to do SNL type skits. Some are dumb, some are great. But keep in mind, Jimmy doesn't have 20 writers writing his jokes every night like Leno or Letterman.

Everybody has an opinion, but I feel better knowing that my opinion will still be around after yours is 6 feet under. :p

Lazy J,
Yes I am a part of the older crowd. I don't see what that has to do with the fact Jimmy Fallon is a no talent hack.... and by the way when we had three channels the quality of the writing was much better. FYI I am a big fan of Conan. I think he should have kept the tonight show. Conan had better shows the first week he was on Late Night than Fallon has been able to pull off after all this time. Craig is better with less budget and much more funny that Jimmy. Why don't you have Jimmy watch Craig and he might learn a thing or two about how to be funny. No take that back... Nothing could make Jimmy funny. If his show got dumped, now that would be funny and make me laugh.

And by the way... I'm sure I'll be around for a very long time... Being older and more wise, I'm more careful crossing the street than some young inexperienced "jay walker" like yourself.

Hope Conan gets a big fat gig on FOX. NBC bites.

Kindest Regards,
Skipper

have a nice day...

As much as you loved Conan, his ratings were terrible...he was getting beat by Craig even before he took the Tonight Show. NBC put too much faith in him, and I see the same thing happening with Fallon. Sure I have personal tastes too, but the numbers don't lie.

This entire discussion is indicative of the problem network TV faces in the digital age. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone wants what they want when they want it. That makes it harder for any one person to attract the size of audience it takes to make such a show profitable. Fallon has his fan base, Ferguson has his fan base, Conan has his, and every change leads to a smaller and smaller audience, and the audience keeps declining as new choices appear.

benwolf, I agree Conan's ratings were down, how could they be anything but down Leno killing 10pm. Local news was also down, again the Leno effect. Your ratings would be down as well with an hour and a half of loss before you start.

I do agree with TheBigA that network ratings are indicative of the problems of Digital. I liked the show Southland, another victim of the Leno effect. However I downloaded all the episodes that were done from Itunes and watched them on my Itouch. (what the matter Lazy J, didn't think I was hip enough to download and remember Carson! HA)

Digital is the way we are movin'... but I think if Network developes good programs and it's used as a tool to expose people and then let them download the shows they like...that would keep folks tuned in ...that's pretty much what we have now... just look on I tunes store and check out the most popular T.V. show downloads.. week to week it's the last episodes that aired on network... there is room for both old and new to survive. New episodes on Net, then move them to the download site.

At least Jimmy is funny. Conan is not funny and has weird, bizzare hair. I could never get past Conan's stupid haircut.

This was a fitting tribute by Jimmy to Conan. Pretty funny too with Dr. Oz on there. But I prefer Jimmy to Craig, and I prefer Conan to Jay. And I've always liked Dave too. But that and a Dollar might get me a cup of coffee. The so called ratings are just a guess. That's it, and nothing more. More and more people like myself are watching our TV programs when we want to watch them online. There are plenty of places I can watch, or even download TV programs that are not rated. I can't even remember the last time I went to an official network site to watch a program. If it wasn't for the woman, I'd be dropping my cable, because I really don't need it anymore. I'm sure there are 1000's that are just like me too.

Ok, Ok, I give you credit. I just enjoy watching Jimmy Fallon. In fact, I remember telling my wife that I enjoy him enough to stay up late to watch him. So, I am just surprised that someone else REALLY doesn't like him. But, to each his own I guess.

It's all good lazy.... I will give Jimmy props for the Neil Young "Pant's on the ground" I did not laugh, but I smiled.

;D

How many years did Leno have weird skunk hair? Talk about Bizzare!

At least since he took for Johnny Carson, for what it's worth.

You'll excuse me if I think someone who admittedly can't get past 'a haircut' (particularly one thats been on the year since 1993) doesn't have the best gauge on weeknight comedy.

Here's one. Can't vouch for the other 999, though. ;-)

I have said the very same thing on more than one occasion. I would love to tell cable where they can take its overpriced and ad-filled septic tank, and in its place spring for the biggest Netflix option ... and download first-run network eps from iTunes. Alas, my wife would go into Hallmark and Food Network Withdrawal.

Getting back on topic.....

I thought that Jimmy's little tribute to Conan was wonderful and hilarious......it was without a doubt one of the best sketches put on an NBC show in quite a while. And a nice little way to promote "Dr. Oz" in the process.

Dr. Oz... ??? What? Wow really? WOW I think I understand the attraction of Fallon... The Nuts like him.

I dropped cable last year. Only 998 more to go. I get 30 Digital channels just fine with my regular antenna. My antenna doesn't charge me $60 Bucks a month either! ;D

Uh, back up to 999. My fiancee has informed me we need cable. Of course, I got the last word in that discussion - "Yes dear".
