Alice is now at 96.7 and the Smooth Jazz website says goodbye with links
to other jazz stations. What is happening with 102.7? Jimmy will sniff it
out for you.

I started hearing "KEZL to country" rumors a few weeks ago. Now that Alice has moved to 96.7, Country has to be the odds on favorite for 102.7. Over the past few months several markets are getting their second or third country stations. The last time so many stations flipped to this format was the early 90s country boom.

Country is a good possibility. I'd bet 20 bucks on that flip. However, since Clear Channel owns 102.7, is there a possibility that they might add their "La Preciosa" format there? Yes, I know Fresno has a zillion Spanish stations, and probably a couple of Spanish Recuerdo Oldies formats, but Preciosa has a pretty good track record.

I agree...and there are already two country stations so far. It would be hard for them. I think.

Country is on 93.7 , 96.3, 105.5, and 106.7.
KSKS 93.7 is as untouchable as KUZZ is in Bakersfield. KUUS is doing better than I expected them to but still not even half of KSKS. KJUG 106.7 is the third station that even shows in the ratings but is located in Tulare about 50 miles away.
There is no way CC could compete at against KSKS.
I mentioned it earlier in a previous post.. Anyone agree that a KBIG type Hot AC would be welcomed by a number of female listeners?? CC does a great job of programming the wall of women stations in LA. Could it be copied here??

Thoughts??

Re: This would be the FIFTH area country station

First off... Watch for Alice to TANK at 96.7. Very odd for them to move a station that's been doing well to such a weak stick. Alice only does well because it's an "at-work" radio station... why move it to a frequency that doesn't get into business offices very well?

2... Country is the word. Alot of talk on here about La Preciousa (they already have one on 92.9) and KBIG in LA... That won't happen, that would only compete with Alice and Soft Rock.

3... KJUG & KUBB are not factors in the Fresno market AT ALL. One is out of Merced and the other is out of Visalia... neither have much of a signal in Fresno... but then again neither does 105.5.

102.7 has an outstanding signal, and if another Country station will work in town... it'll be on that frequency.

... but just for fun, wouldn't it be great if Clear Channel did mainstream/CHR on 102.7 and modeled it after KIIS in LA.... they could just copy all the imaging and call it 102.7 KIIS FM, and then sue Kiss Country for the name, like they love doing anyway.

A KIIS FM in Fresno would kill Y101 and Q97.

KUZZ is untouchable. KSKS is not. Just watch.

Has there been any talk of CC trying to steal KSKSs morning show? This has been their strategy in markets such as San Diego, Tampa Bay, Albuqurque, and Birmingham.

Not sure when thier contract is up... but CBS has them under contract. Anyone sure how the non-competes stand up in Cali? Heard they don't... not sure about it.

Their "La Preciosa" which got off to a great start on 92.9 - is reportedly being affected early by Univision's "Recuerdo" on 107.5 - which has a better signal. I wonder if CC wants to move "Preciosa" on to the stronger 102.7 facility to better compete with "Recuerdo" and putting something else on 92.9.

Plus, CC blew up a relatively successful CHR station in Bakersfield and went Country there and got hammered. I don't think they want to replicate that in Fresno.

Both signals are from Eshom Point. 107.5 puts out 20.5kw and 92.9 17.5kW. From my house in rural Kings Coutny near Corcoran, 92.9 is a little bit weaker. At my other place in Mendota, 92.9 seems a little stronger. Must be some thing to do with they type of antenna they use or the tower location on the mountain.
