Just got this in:

"It is with great regret that I inform you of the passing of one of the
Delta's Radio pioneers and our Ad fed's biggest supporters. Jim Karr lost
his battle with cancer this morning.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 29 @ Boone Funeral Home in
Greenville. The funeral will be Saturday, March 1 at 2pm at Temple Baptist
Church.

Let's keep his family in our prayers during their time of loss."

It's going to seem strange not hearing about "a dollar a hollar" spots and no one calling us "Sharecroppah". The Delta is really going to miss him. There aren't many real "characters" out there, and now there's one less.

After hearing about this last night, I was really shocked to hear that this pioneer in Delta radio has been silenced. He's been a really nice man that I got to know after a brief stint with them at Q102 three years ago. He'll be greatly missed amongst all radio pioneers in the Delta. My condolences to the Karr family and those associated with him over the years.

Thinking about Jimmy takes me back to a time when radio was fun. I worked with him at WDDT back in to '70's, and went by to see him whenever I came back to town. The last time I saw him, I volunteered to voice a grocery spot (Bing's, probably), and he recorded me using their latest computer technology. My thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy's family.
