Jimmy Malone Back On the Air

WNIR is announcing that Jimmy Malone, mainstay of the old WMJI morning show and WTAM, will be part of their morning show every Monday starting next week.
He'll join Joyce Johnson and News Director Phil Ferguson.
WNIR has had a vacant chair in that slot since sports maven Steve French retired a couple years ago. '90's WMMS middayer Lou Santini has been doing occasional.fill in for Joyce and production Director Tom Cullison has become a regular contributor on the program while Chris Casale takes Joyce's spot on Wednesdays.
Recent ratings show WNIR holding on to its position behind WQMX, WONE and WZAK in the Akron book.

Politically, I rarely agreed with Jimmy Malone but respected his opinion and enjoyed listening to him. I am glad he's back in the air. I will have to check that out.

That is a big grab for WNIR to have Jimmy on the station. I have a feeling the station is now going after anyone no matter what their politics are, as finding a good talk show is becoming more rarer.

The biggest challenge is making sure there's good on-air chemistry with the Maloner and the rest of the crew. The last thing that anyone should want is the "right pundit vs. left pundit" trope or combat talk.

AFAIK Malone owns the rights to "Knuckleheads in the News" as that originated with his standup act. Hopefully he does.
Hey, maybe they can bring back Chip Kulik too.
Might not be a stretch if Phil Ferguson is thinking about hanging up the microphone at some point. Along with channel 23 sports and his work at 1590, Phil's had a good, long career.

Chris works Thursdays, not Wednesdays. FYI.

I've aways liked that WNIR stayed live and did local talk, but found the actual talent pretty imbalanced. Malone might be a good get if they'll work with him and not turn it into a Colmes/Hannity situation where he's just shouted over.
