Jimmy Myers on Touch 106.1

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinio...star_s_hub_radio_career_has_been_touch_and_go

The article does not mention that the station is illegal.

>>Jimmy Myers, who’s been a lightning rod in this town for almost 40 years, is back on the air again, though the only places he’ll be heard are in the inner city and parts of downtown Boston.
Housed in a basement studio across from Mosque 11 in Grove Hall, the station is called Touch 106.1, a low-powered FM outlet with a signal that doesn’t span more than a couple of miles.

And just like the various legal stations he's worked for, he'll last as long as he holds his infamous temper in check.

I wonder if he is still angry at Red and Dave Gavitt (who are dead). He --apparently-- wanted teh Celtics to save Reggie Lewis from himself?
Other than that I never thought Jimmy was that bad. If he was full of himself ...so are a lot of people.

I knew him in the clubbing days back in the 80's - he could turn you to stone with one look - he did however, keep his racism in check, in fact he used to cozy up to good looking white women back then -

I saw Jimmy at the Montreal Forum pleading with a concession worker to put the NBA Finals on while he was covering the Bruins/Habs final in 1978.

I saw his finale at 'BZ TV. He did his segment, threw his ear piece on the desk and walked off the set. I'm trying hard to remember who the co-anchor was and while I can picture them I can't recall the names?

The guy-- was from Louisiana I think-- and the Af Am woman ( not Liz) were kind of stunned but kept their cool and did their signoff routinely.

One of the cable sports stations are doing a Reggie Lewis special. Maybe Jimmy is part of it?

This. Ran into him once or twice and he seemed like a decent person. Jimmy has always produced compelling radio. He reminds me of Mike Adams in the sense that he can go overboard goofball on occasion, but unlike Mike he also has the gravitas to tackle serious subjects.

I'd say 98.5 should consider giving him a weekend slot, but the weekend stable there is already full.
