Jimmy Rabbitt

Very sorry to be the bearer of sad news on this morning after Thanksgiving. Jimmy Rabbitt (Eddie Payne) passed away in Texas at the age of 79.

On a personal note, Rabbitt is easily on my list of the ten air talents I've enjoyed the most. REELRADIO has airchecks of him at KLIF, Dallas, KRLA, KHJ, KGBS-FM and KROQ AM and FM, Los Angeles, but Rabbitt was also (briefly) on ABC-FM's "Love" format, on KMET and went straight-up country in stints at KBBQ, KGBS-FM and KLAC (twice).

He and B. Mitchel Reed, to me, are the pillars of FM rock radio in Southern California. As a teenager, there simply was no one hipper than The Rabbitt.

Sorry to hear this. I had the opportunity to hear Jimmy Rabbitt on the REELRADIO website. Very entertaining and quite talented. RIP!

I was too young to hear Jimmy Rabbit on my favorite station growing up, KMET and was very disappointed that he and other jocks from the pre-Sam Bellamy era (late 70s to early 80s) were not included in the KMET reunion that took place on the Sound (KSWD). As I said at the time, KMET was at its height in the Bellamy era , but those achievements were also built on work of those that came before them including Jimmy Rabbit, Steven Clean, and Shadoe Stevens among others. I wish that work could have been recognized while he was still with us.
