You can buy his library cd's at a very reasonable price and re-mix a lot of the material. It really is very reasonable. I believe the True Oldies Channel uses some of his stuff as well.
I see that my poor typing skills have shown up. It's Ben Freedman, not "Been."
Elchalupa is right though. His stock "Promo Pack" has a lot of usable material in it. We use it on KZQX. You do have to do some editing work, but the combinations you can come up with are endless. There is a lot that sounds good on a Standards Station. When I bought our package, he threw in a couple of custom cuts for us too.
I notice that he now has the old Pepper Tanner jingle tracks. Some of those “Retro-Oldies” packages would sound great on our station. Back in "the day," if your station didn't use PAMS, it very likely had a competing Pepper-Tanner package. Both came from Dallas, and were of similar quality. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they even used some of the same voices. Indeed, I think they did.
Freedman, as well as JAM, are both in Dallas, as is TM. I have to admit that I've always admired the sound of the JAM products, but Ben's sound pretty good too, and were priced in the budget range of a very small radio station.
Incidentally, I’ve found that Top 40 sounding jingles work quite well on a Standards station. You are selling nostalgia, and most people remember the sound. Maybe they were listening to Little Richard and Chuck Berry when they first heard them, but a lot of those jingles go equally well with Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. It’s more about the era than the type of music. Besides an occasional up tempo jingle keeps the people at the nursing home from dozing off….
