JJ Davis leaves B106/WBTU

Budget difficulties were listed as the reason. No commercials=no budget=no talent=no sales=no commercials.

Pretty simple math for everyone but AMP. Guess they were betting on an uptick in the numbers from the lack of commercials on B106. But no commercials does not a radio station make....hell, if it did, there'd be a whole nother dynamic in the Fort Wayne market....lots of stations can't sell a spot to save their lives. Nice try with B106, though....Could a format flip be coming?

I'd be willing to bet they'll make it another WAZY clone without even considering the Ft. Wayne market.<P ID="signature">______________

With call letters like WBTU, why don't they call it Hot 106, playing blazin' hip-hop?

Um...two problems with that scenario.

1. B 106 (CHR/R) and WBTU (country) are two different stations, both of which JJ worked for, to the best of my knowledge....AMP in Fort Wayne only has a little less than one full staff for the two stations.

2. Hot 107.9 in Fort Wayne would go over and literally kick their ass; as opposed to doing it with ratings and billing, like they are now.

Good thinking promotionally, though...

I'd say that's a pretty good assumption, but the question is what could they possibly do that isn't already being done in Fort Wayne? The market pretty much has everything covered except urban AC and smooth jazz, and I really can't see AMP doing either of those two formats.

Personally, I think B106 would have been much more successful if AMP would have just flipped the format from standards instead of gradually going to CHR. It looks as if they pissed off all of their older listeners and failed to replace them with the same amount of people in their new target demo. AMP may not be the best radio company out there, but they do know how to do CHR pretty well. Something has to give for them to get such lackluster ratings.

Actually, B106 is a CHR/Pop. Rhythmics don't play Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Jessica Simpson, etc.

And to answer the question of whether or not a flip is in their future: Duh. Junior has really run both of these stations into the ground. Until Senior grows a set and makes some changes (read: fires Junior), the stations will continue to be the joke of Fort Wayne radio.

JJ is a pretty good guy and I hope he lands on his feet somewhere. He had been driving 2 hrs to work each day.

Maybe he'll land back in Lafayette at WAZY.

Thanks for the correction... I've never been in Fort Wayne, but I peruse the Indiana board cause I used to live in Southern Indiana...

Power to the British Thermal Unit... too bad the idea was a flame-out.

If JJ was let go in Fort Wayne, how come he was on the air Friday on 93.3. Also, he's still on both websites. What gives?
