JJ Jeffrey would like to "clear the air"---AGAIN!

To all who read this (or the Boston Board)---

JJ Jeffrey (the owner of ATLANTIC COAST BROADCASTING which includes: WLOB and WRED)...would like to clear the air one more time!

Contrary to what a few contributors might believe...JJ and Bob Fuller were NOT CO-OWNERS of WGUY. Why this rumor continues to circulate puzzles and definitely p**ses him off.

Also...contrary to what one or two broadcasters might believe, neither Bob nor JJ is celebrating over 5 decades in the radio broadcasting business. If you'd like their actual numbers, I'd suggest you contact either gentleman at one of his respective radio stations! ::)

Sometimes it's a better idea to go to the actual sourceinstead of SPECULATING according to inaccurate knowledge!!! ::)

I read these boards all the time.Where was this mention of the co-owning of WGUY mentioned?I don't know how I could have missed it.

I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who said that JJJ invented radio. Back in the 1920's.

I remember actually listening to him on WRKO. Must've been 1967 or '68.

He was definitely on the air at WRKO in 1967 and Bob Fuller was on WTRY-Albany, NY in 1965. They both were well experienced before those gigs too....

Time Traveler is correct about JJ and Bob Fuller. ;)

Underminer is basically a smart a**! ::)

His feeble attempts at humor really do nothing for this (or any) radio-info board!

Call me what you want, Gary, it doesn't matter to me. Know why? I work FULL-TIME in the radio biz--the one that YOU DON'T.

Underminer:

The fact that you work FULLTIME doesn't necessarily make you a better broadcaster!

I know several people (who currently work part-time or are completely out of the business) who probably have as many (OR MORE) broadcast skills than you might have?

What's the point of verbally "slam dunking" JJ JEFFREY or BOB FULLER? Both have beaten the odds and have remained successful in an unstable profession! ;)

Gary,

I never said I was a BETTER broadcasters than anyone else. I am, however, a FULLY EMPLOYED broadcaster--something you are not. As far as Doc and JJ, I've worked for 'em. Nice guys. Lighten up.

the attempt was good...because your comment came out of left field, no mention of WGUY and JJ Jeffery has ever been made on this board (search the history)...but thanks for trying to move this board away from the 10 plus pages relating to Joe McMillan

Don't really know much about Bob, but JJ's gotta be getting close to 50 years in the biz. Airchecks of him on WMEX in 1961 (using the name "Fenway") exist on reelradio.com. I can't believe he didn't have a few years under his belt when he came there.

Dunno why he's so upset about this. At least people remember him which is more than can be said about 99% of ex-jocks.

Oldbones...

While I certainly can't read JJ's (or anybody's) mind...age sensitivity is an issue that most broadcasters can relate to.

Some of us are strictly radio types...so as long as we're coherent with clarity and our thoughts...our real age isn't a big deal. But if we work in television (in addition to radio)---there seems to be an emphasis on looking pretty or handsome in front of a camera as opposed to our knowledge about a certain topic.

While I won't mention JJ's exact age...I know that in order for him to be pushing 50 years in broadcasting...he would have had to enter the radio business and be paid as a professional when he was 12 or 13! ::)

Just curious....are you a good friend of his? An employee of his? Neighbor? Relative?

Please don't take this the wrong way...just wondering why you can speak for him.

spilot113...

JJ and I are good friends...and he has also been my employer.

I worked for ATLANTIC COAST BROADCASTING from 2002 to 2004...when WLOB had a music format. [Bud Sawyer was the morning man and I wrote and reported the news...in addition to hosting a Sunday night Classic Radio Show].

I occasionally make a guest appearance. As a matter of fact...one is coming up on Saturday Morning, December 23rd (with Kevin Crocker) on 96.3FM WLOB.

JJ asked me back in March to set the record straight on this board concerning the erroneous information that he was FENWAY. JJ also took issue with the fact that Bob Fuller and He and were celebrating 50+ years in radio!

If you have any doubts about the stations the 2 gentlemen co-owned together, I suggest you contact them directly!

Correction to my last post:

JJ took issue with the fact that radio broadcasters thought he was
MELVIN X MELVIN! Apparently, JJ wasn't!

I've never asked him about the FENWAY personna! :-\

Underminer...

What do you want to research? Why not make a phone call to ATLANTIC COAST BROADCASTING (in Portland, Maine) and go to the source. I'm sure JJ would be happy to enlighten you.....assuming that's possible? ???
