JJ JEFFREY WOULD LIKE TO "CLEAR THE AIR!"

The following comments came from radio station owner and broadcast legend, JJ Jeffrey. I received it via snail mail on Wednesday (3/28/04). They're primarily directed to members OLD BONES and FOREVERNIGHT...who had made errors in their posts connected with JJ's past radio experience.

However...I'm sure "Triple J" wouldn't mind if the rest of the group reads them too? The words in bold italics are directly quoted from Mr. Jeffrey's letter to me

I would like to clear the air and boot out the mis-information that surrounds me.

In regards to color radio WMEX (and the comments made by radio-info member OLD BONES):

"I was not on the air back in the late 50s. I was on the "X" in the 60s mostly during the BEATLES Era. Bring on the tapes that "refute" that! I have no ill-will against Max Richmond, Memories---for the most part---are positive!

And this comment is directed toward radio-info member: FOREVERNIGHT:

Your WGUY note is totally false! I worked with Jim Sanz and (Bob) Fuller at Portland's TOP 40 GIANT: THE BIG JAB! I went once to WGUY to visit with Bob Mooney (the GM) and the mighty, but humble, John Marshall. The BIG JAB DJ (who for a time was PD and DJ at WGUY) was the world famous Jim Sanz. He went on to WBZ, WNBC, WLOB and WHDH...not necessarily in that order.

Finally...THANK YOU FOR YOUR NICE COMMENTS, (well-deserved) ABOUT ME!
. YOU FOLKS ARE GETTING A LOT OF MIS-INFORMATION. I'LL TRY TO KEEP YOU STRAIGHT?

Regards, JJ of WLOB's FOX MORNING NEWS (WEEKDAYS 5-9AM) [/i]

I have nothing to add to this...

My apologies to JJ Jeffery. I regret that I passed along information that I read in a completely inaccurate article. It was over 15 years ago that I read this, so I do not recall the publication. Much like Artsix's allegation that heads would roll at WZON over the loss of UMaine sports, sometimes one posts bad information based on a bogus source. Thanks to Argy for posting JJ's comments and setting me straight on this.

Well EXCCUUUUUSE me for being off a couple years. A search of "WMEX" on Ed Brouder's online aircheck database http://www.manfrommars.com/acsearch.asp?stDJ=&stStationMarket=wmex&stYear=&stContent=&stScoped=2&IMAGE.x=117&IMAGE.y=21

shows 2 airchecks of JJ on WMEX from 1961 using the air name "Fenway".

If you will check the same thread that I asked the question about him being at WMEX in the late 50s, you will note the following answer to my question...

Quick response to old bones...

JJ never worked for WMEX!

I know there are a few broadcasters who have claimed he was "Melvin X Melvin" (back in the late 50s)! However---TRIPLE J has assured me that he had no broadcast connection with WMEX under that name...or his own! ;)

However if you check this link: http://www.reelradio.com/dasm/index.html#mxmwmex65 you'll find that he DID work there as Melvin X Melvin in 1965.

You are free to humbly admit your mistake.

It might seem a bit trite to point this out, but the reel radio site does not clearly identify Melvin X Melvin as being JJ Jeffreys, in fact, they admit to not being able to distinguish who it is, but that "general consensus" has led them to believe that it could be.
