This is great opportunity for FM newscasters who are looking to expand their horizons and on-air presence.
For more information go to www.clearchannel.com and reference job #384. Clear Channel is an equal opportunity employer.

So much for the firings being a "budget issue".

This will be like the 5th producer they have hired for Hughes in 3 years. I'm sure this next one will finally be the guy to book those heavy-hitting local newsmaker guests (crutches for a lazy host...yes, Grumpy, I mean you) at 5:15am that nobody outside of the GST parking lot will be able to hear anyway. I wonder if it has ever occurred to anyone in all these years that maybe the problem with the show isn't the producer.

And what exactly does an "Assistant PD" do at WGST? Help the Program Director not make any decisions? Yes, you too can "grow into a serious candidate for a PD position", because God knows WGST goes through them.

The ad should have said: "You will grow into a serious candidate to be the next PD fired by this radio station in a few years."

The Titanic is rotting on the ocean floor, and Clear Channel is still sending in new crews to rearrange the deck chairs.

The firings don't make much sense to me. Chris Bailey and Kari Dean are both very good newscasters. Why would Andy Rose have seniority over Dean and escape the ax, he hasn't been at GST for very long. I think Bloomquist is just trying to show upper CC management that he is doing something, although what he's doing is about as clear as mud. Changes like this drive me nuts because as a listener I don't see any value added. Sometimes I think I could do a better job at this than some of the people CC puts in there.

I think the point is that it's irrelevant who you put in there. At that budget, one guy reading wire copy sounds pretty much like the next one....and none of them will ever attract listeners from WSB.

WGST will never win the news war in Atlanta, period. They will never even come close. News is a cume-driven format. WSB has the cume, and WGST never will.

When they cleaned house last week, I actually thought they might be freeing up some budget to hire real morning and midday hosts and finally focus on on talk and building their TSL. I guess I should have known better.

They say that doing the same thing over and over again and somehow expecting the results to be different is a sign of insanity. I say it's a sign that you're wearing a suit and sitting in a corner office in the Building of Death.

I agree to a point. Are you saying the WSB's newscaster's don't read wire copies? I'm confused. I say if you put Scott Slade, Bob Cox, or whoever else reads the news over there, on WGST, nobody would listen to them either. Atlanta has becomed so conditioned to listen to WSB for the news, that they would tune in if I was doing the news. Case in point, I wonder what Bortz's or Hannitiy's ratings were at GST as compared to WSB...I would guess not as good. Same hosts, different station. Dr. Luara had huge ratings at WSB, but was a flop on GST. Put anyone on WSB, and people will listen because they have done a great job at marketing their station.
That being said, I'm still loyal to GST because I believe competition is good. Cox has a monopoly on the newpaper biz in Atlanta, we don't need them to totally teke over the media in this town. I must admit, however, my loyalty to GST is being tested right now.

>> I agree to a point. Are you saying the WSB's newscaster's don't read wire copies? <<

Well they might...I really don't know. But you can't deny that WSB has a much better and larger news force than WGST's. They've dedicated the budget and resources and marketing to dominate the radio news image. Reporters on the street, the resources of a TV station and newspaper, a newsroom full of reporters and editors, and a killer morning anchor with tons of credibility and equity in the market. Add a monster 24/7 signal and it's over. WGST, with its half-assed efforts to duplicate, doesn't stand a chance.

>>>I'm confused. I say if you put Scott Slade, Bob Cox, or whoever else reads the news over there, on WGST, nobody would listen to them either. <<<

That's exactly my point. It's irrelevant who reads the news at WGST, because nobody listens to WGST for news. Very few people listen for any other reason either, but that's a different topic.

>>Atlanta has becomed so conditioned to listen to WSB for the news, that
they would tune in if I was doing the news. <<<

Well, not really. You can dominate the image to get you the cume, but you have to have decent programnming to keep people listening. Like I've said before, nobody's going to listen to garbage just because it comes in clearly.

>>>Case in point, I wonder what Bortz's or Hannitiy's ratings were at GST as
compared to WSB...I would guess not as good. Same hosts, different station.<<<

Well, that's a different topic entirely. Now you're talking about Talk. It might interest you to know that when he was on WGST, Hannity used to beat Boortz on WSB.

>>>Dr. Luara had huge ratings at WSB, but was a flop on GST. Put anyone on WSB, and people will listen because they have done a great job at marketing their> station.<<<

There's a lot of truth to that. However, one could argue that WGST picked up Laura right when she was starting to decline all over the place. Sometimes a show is a good fit one one station, and a disaster on another.

>> That being said, I'm still loyal to GST because I believe competition is good. Cox has a monopoly on the newpaper biz in Atlanta, we don't need them to totally teke over the media in this town. I must admit, however, my loyalty to GST is being tested right now.<<

Only WGST could go out of their way to alienate the last few people in town that actually still had any loyalty to them.

Trust me....you can't save money by firing 4 people and replacing them with 5 people...at any salary level.

You've never worked for Clear Channel...

Look, I need a job and if Clear Channel is hiring, then I want in on it...PERIOD! I really don't care what they've done BEFORE because CC operates on a simple principle, keep rotating people in the positions with new ideas until they get it right. The good stuff sticks, the bad stuff rolls away. Besides, a job at even the low amounts CC likes to offer is better than no job at all...right? Besides that, what if WGST DOES hire me and the ratings DO finally take off? If nothing else, it sure makes me look very good. If not, what the hell. I can ALWAYS work at Wal-Mart again.

Good luck!!! Everyone should work at WGST once in their career. I think everyone has done it atleast once.
