Jobs in Jacksonville and the surrounding area

Hey guys and gals,

I am just wondering if you all could give me a feel for what the job market is like in that area. My wife (who makes the real money) is pondering a transfer to the area and of course I would like a job that is more than waiting tables. I have worked in sports, done tons of play-by-play but also have done news, production and promotions. How competitive is it in that neck of the woods?

Most of the stations are owned by Clear Channel, Cox and Renda. CC and Cox of course are running on minimal staffs with a lot of jockless and VT shifts and both companies have had recent bouts of layoffs both nationally and locally. There are two sports stations 930 The Fox (clear channel) and 1010XL (local staff). There is always turnover so you could step into an existing position if someone leaves and the ownership don't just eliminate the position.
 
Agreed with Another Cat....hard to break in to the big 3, however WOKV is the one station in the COX building that still hires live bodies so that would be an avenue for something news related....sports would be 1010XL, which beat the established 930 the Fox out of the gate...Good Luck!!

And I imagine their V.T. 12-6 AM....So much for that idea.
