JOCKS YOU TUNE IN OR TUNE OUT FOR...

So, one of the great things radio has that Pandora or Ipods don't have are jocks to entertain and inform us. Past or present, who are those jocks that you would tune in for, just cause it was one of their airshifts?

A few of mine...

- Liz Boyle (KOOL)
- Sammy Sherwood (KOOL)
- Monica Nelson (Peak)
- JD (101.5 Jamz)
- Phil Steiner (Mix)
- Louis Cruise (Mix)
- Sylvia Chacon (Eva)

Agree? Disagree?

I think it's important to recognize that there are those who still entertain us and make radio great.

John Holmberg-KUPD
Kid and Ruben-Both stints at KPTY
Jim Sharp-Afternoons at KZON
Doc Ellis-KZON
Dead Air Dave-The original Edge
Robin Nash-The original Edge

Present: Mark Mayfield, Pete Cummings (KSLX), but 100.7 is the only station with DJs that I listen to anymore.

Past: Lucky Lawrence (KRUX), Toad Hall, Bill Compton (KDKB), Camelback Jack (KOOL), Tony Booth (KBBC). But I preferred KRIZ no matter who was on the air, back in "the day." ;D

The Bone Mamma (KZON, KUKQ)
Pat McMahon (KTAR)
Bob Mohan, Earl Baldwin (KFYI)
Robin Nash (KEDJ)
Jonathan L (KUKQ, KUPD, KWSS-LP)
Beef Vegan (KWSS-LP)

Mohan was one guy I liked on KFYI, but he was not a DJ. Same goes for Gerald on KTAR. I don't think he was an actual DJ (as opposed to a talk-show host) anywhere other than KRIZ in the mid '60s.

All mine are tune-ins.

Now:

Janine Miller-KBAQ
Randy Kinkel-KBAQ
Jon Town-KBAQ
Blaze Lantana-KJZZ
Steve Goddard-KOOL
Danny Davis-KOY

Past:

Bill Heywood-KOY
Charlie Van Dyke & Brad Messer-KFYI
The Slim One-KKFR
Supersnake-KKFR
Hank Cookenboo-KDKB
Greg "Third Degree" Burns-KOOL
Talaya Trigueros-KYOT
Joel Grey-KPSN
Susan Stone-KSLX
Bone Mama-KZON
Jim Sharpe-KZON
Robin Nash-KEDJ (yeah, I know she's still on 103.9...)
Craven Moorehead-KEDJ
Bruce Kelly-KZZP
Clarke Ingram-KZZP
Dave Ryan-KZZP

I'm sure I'm zoning more than a few...

:-[I know I'm going to forget some, but here's a start (1993-2006):
KOOL-AM: Famous Amos, John Gibson Carol (sorry, Carol, your last name escapes me but you're great)
KOOL: Angela (she made me feel like I'd known her forever--that's a skill few pjocks have)
Liz Boyle
Sammy Sherwood
Lee Baby Simms (anywhere, anytime)
Steve Goddard (and not just KOOL, of course; he was an amazingly great fit at KNIX; a pro's a pro)
Sammy Sherwood
Liz Boyle (more KOOL than KSLX)
Greg "Third Degree" Burns (didn't sound like he felt as much at home on KPSN)
Camelback Jack
(I'd put Tom Peake on the list, but he didn't hire me. So there! The cosmic scales are balanced.)

KJZZ: Blaze Lantana

KPSN:
Joel Grey (He didn't hire me either. Strike that.)
Alan Cook (sp?)
Susan ? (I hate spacing on her name; nice lady, good talent; also on KVRY I think);

KUKQ: The whole station when Jonathan L. was there.

KOY/KOOL/KFNX: Danny Davis

The original KFNX:
What a great staff and sound! When they were a music station, they were always on my tune-in list.

KEDJ:
Dead Air Dave

105.9 Young Country:
Spanky

KPTY: Kid and Reuben (but not later)

KZON:
Jim Sharpe, Bone Mama, some others whose names have left me since the late 90s;

Tune-Out List:
It's empty. How would I know who's on it? I tuned out!

C.J. Brown was who I was trying to think of at KOOL-AM; big fan of
Famous Amos, too.
And the KPSN/KVRY jock was Susan Landers, if memory serves.
I agree withMichael Hagerty about Supersnake on KKFR; always entertaining.
Also enjoyed Lee Bortel (sp?) on KOOL, and the time or two I heard him, Christopher Lance at KZZP (I was a big fan of his work from '72 on.)

I can't believe I forgot what was my #1 tune-in when I came to town:

David K. Jones and Bob Boze Bell-KSLX

...also heard on KOPA 14~Forty ::) Loved their April Fools Day pranks ;D

Obviously, these are all sadly "past":

KOOL
Liz Boyle
Sammy Sherwood
Bill Gardner
Camelback Jack

KSLX
Susan Stone
Charlie Kendall
Mike Flatt

I would add Steve Goddard and the morning team of Tom & Maria (KOOL) to the list.

I would agree... Angela Allen did come across like she was your best friend.

And CJ Brown is another I can't believe I missed! Such a nice, nice, lady.
