Jodesha Boradcasting Sells Out It's News Product

Jodesha Boradcasting Inc of Aberdeen WA has become the latest group to sell out it's local news product to a make believe radio service, Virtual News Company. Starting Monday the 30th, the voices heard in this market will be uplinked from somewhere else in the country, the casts will be prerecorded (aka: stale). Sure they will sound local and even try to make believe they know what they are talking about, but how can they if they are 3,000 miles away? Sadly this is a growing trend. I have been told that stations in FL, AL, NC etc. are using this smoke and mirror news service. What a shame. With radio still a viable market for REAL local news, it is shameful that stations like this think so poorly of the market they are licensed to "serve" that they do this stuff. I would suggest if you are as mad as I am about this that you write this alleged broadcasting company and complain. It's the only way real radio will ever exist again. Shame on Jodesha Broadcasting and it's stations!!!!! Of course I doubt if letters to Virtual News and/or it's affiliates would matter, but their web site lists many of their stations so why not hit them up too and say shame, shame, shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the indignation. The thinning of resources and outsourcing is alarming and frustrating.

The bottom line though is money. Do you want Jodesha to cease operations because they can't afford their own news department? Let's face it, Lee Rodgers formerly of KSFO in San Francisco said something to the effect of - mama don't let your your kids grow up to be radio broadcasters. His meaning? The industry is constricting and finding your dream gig is becoming harder and harder. The golden age is over.

Less ears, less revenue, less staff.

I don't like it, but I know the trends. That's why you get/finish your Bachelor of Arts to have a fallback.

Seriously, anyone could get all the major local headlines and basic details from the paper, (re)write them down less than a half hour and record the report and even throw in a little (almost) live after report banter about local stuff for each station and still come off sounding "sorta" live and local.

I did live news in small market radio for a while. Hated every second of it, but you'd never know that from my "sunny" attitude - even when I had to report a double homicide (the PD insisted I had to actually SMILE even when I was reading THAT.) But it paid for my magazine subscriptions at least (this was in 1991-92). Then it was off to the customer service counter at Safeway, when my REAL money (i.e SURVIVAL money) was.....
