Joe Buck is back and so on

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/09/30/3177574/fox-sports-joe-buck-slowly-getting.html It's gets to call Cowboys Game.

I would have liked it TBS would bowered Matt, D.,Brian Kenny,Bob Costas,Joe Magrane,Jim Kaat and others from MLB Network to be also part of Crew for Regular and Postseason and not steal guys from local crews because they use Tom V. and John Smoltz from MLB Network.
Also would like ESPN on Game Plan for the Baseball Postseason make Gameplan1 free Preview of it with live feed of Postseason Game if MLB would all it and also publish a story who's calling the Postseason Games this season on Radio.

What's the meaning of this post?

At the very least, can you at least try to explain yourself using of cohesive, intelligent sentences? Sheesh.

TBS stealing local crews ??? ??

Am I the only one scratching the top of the head on this one?

Cheers & 73 ;D

I think he's referring to the use of local announcers Brian Anderson (Brewers), Don Orsillo (Red Sox), and Victor Rojas (Angels) on TBS.

Spell checker? The more often I read these posts and topics, the more sloppy spelling or writing while under the influence, I run into. Maybe its an example of our excellent school systems, including institutions of higher tuitions? Maybe its a new type of language, like in the classic movie "BladeRunner", "cityspeak". Unless some are forgetting what they ignored in the classroom and spelling it as they speak it, whether it involves the use of appropriate language skills or not?

I do remember NBC using local announcers on World Series telecasts, specifically Marty Brennaman and Dick Stockton in the '75 Reds-Red Sox series.

Your reaction is not unique. The original poster used to be a frequent contributor, under a variety of names, on gatewaycityradio.com's TV board (http://www.gatewaycityradio.com/messageboard/tvboard.asp). The other posters hammered him pretty hard, mostly for the unusual sentence structure, and occasionally for the lack of understanding of the broadcasting business.

Could this be the same dude who wrote the really odd posts about Happy Days and Howdy Doody?

Brian Anderson has a contract with Brewers and TBS,Earnie Johnson is not available, local Stations are not allowed to show Games in Postseason and should be allowed to.

I am sick of Joe Buck. Virus or not, he is awful. His father, God rest his soul, was one of the all-time best.

I agree with another poster, why not borrow MLB Network talent for the playoffs? Or - how about this - utilize the PBP announcers from each of the teams, and have them alternate PBP and color during the game (like Eric Nadel and Steve Busby do on Rangers radio broadcasts)? Or maybe borrow Fox broadcasters (for example, steal Josh Lewin away from the Chargers for a bit). Since Fox is carrying the World Series, why not?

Since TBS/TNT only carry ballgames on Sundays during the season (is that right? That seems to be what they did last year), they probably feel it's less expensive to "rent" announcers for a game or a series, which is why they "steal" local talent.

And to mgsports' point: In markets where (a) TBS/TNT are not on the cable system (not many, I know), or (b) people only have an antenna (probably more likely), why can't local stations simulcast the playoffs in their local market? It happens with NFL Network on Thursday Night and Saturday Night Football.

Because Stadiums/Dome's only have I think 4 Booths and one is for ESPN Radio, another TBS or FOX. and the last two for Teams Radio Station.

Now what does that have anything to do with this?

And, while I'm at it, why does everyone continue to hate on Joe Buck? He is not his father (not by a longshot), but he is obviously talented enough to work two sports. And you know what, everyone makes mistakes, even broadcasters (myself included). So unless you've been behind a mike and experienced it yourself, don't complain.

Back to topic: it does take something away from post-season when you have to watch/listen to flown-in national voices. We should go back to the time, at least in baseball, when the network had an announcer from each team work the game with the national person. Considering that local TV is blacked-out for the post-season, I think it's only fair to give the TV voices a chance to do some playoff games.

I agree about being puzzled by the hating on Joe Buck. He's calm, smooth, and a credit to the memory and legacy of his great dad. I'm no big McCarver fan, but when I hear them together, I know it is a big time game. And I think he and Aikman do the same for the NFL. BTW, somebody must like him, or he would have been let go by FOX years ago.

You just named two of the primary qualities sports fans dislike about Joe Buck (and Jim Nantz as well).

Regular season: TBS only. Postseason: TBS is primary, while TNT is secondary. Example: Last night in the 8 PM hour, the Yankees/Tigers game started on TNT, and moved over to TBS once the Rays/Rangers game was through.

I guess being smooth and classy is not desired anymore. I always have felt that the play-by-play guy should be smooth and disciplined, while the color guy provides the commentary and a little edginess. Buck, Nantz, Sean McDonough, Mike Joy, Allen Bestwick, and Tom Hicks are, in my opinion, the best pbp's in the business today. They, to me, uphold the fine traditions of Curt Goudy, Pat Summerall, and Ken Squier.

Curt Gowdy, Vin Scully, Keith Jackson, Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell, & Harry Kalas are/were the definition of "smooth & classy." I can't quite put Pat Summerall or Frank Gifford in their class, especially when they got older.

But one can show personality and still be a great play-caller. Past & present, Jack Brickhouse, Lindsey Nelson, Marv Albert, Al Michaels, Jon Miller, Harry Caray (before his stroke), Bob Prince, & Bob Uecker come to mind immediately.

One can also take the "smooth & classy" too far and become boring. This was a problem with baseball broadcasters in the early days - Bob Elson was the last of that group. I also put Jim Nantz in that category when he's doing football or golf. He's much better doing college hoops.

I actually like Joe Buck doing football, but I think he got better because Troy Aikman makes him better. Tim McCarver doesn't make anybody better, and Buck also sounds like he likes football better than baseball. His contract with Fox puts post-season baseball first, though.
