Joe Elliott

I remember Joe Elliot used to do Late Night Oldies on WHAS on Joe Donavons nights off. I always liked both guys.... I also wonder were Joe Donavon is these days, is he still with WHAS doing something else, or is he retired or in a different market. I remember both Joe's brought in their personal record collection to be played on the air, and they could play whatever they wanted. Now that was quality oldies radio.

Somebody please get this talented man on the air full-time. I'm listening to him fill in for Terry as we speak.

maybe CC Matthews should hire him at WGTK

What gtk should do is get rid of dennis miller not a very funny show and put joe on with a live call in show from 12-3 but i bet that would cost gtk more then they pay for dennis miller. In the short term yes long term no its called looking at the big picture.

It can be assumed a non-compete will prevent any move across town. However, if a non-compete didn't exist the daring move is place Joe Elliot opposite of Rush. A local talk show with a level headed host might have a chance against a syndicated show who's host question one's devotion to country simply because you disagree.

I was joking when I said they should hire them-- I know they won't...

"NEWSTALK 970 WGTK" can't even get a internal news department, for the "newstalk" station, let alone a live talk show!

That's because it's no longer Newstalk; it's "Intelligent-Conservative Talk 970 WGTK".

Well now that you say that, I guess maybe they will hire Joe Elliot... he's intelligent, right?

Due to the ice storm that hit the region today, WHAS-AM has finally come to their senses tonight. They have dumped Savage and gave the airwaves to Denton Randall, local callers, and extensive news coverage from Michael Clark. A local host, taking calls from local listeners who are discussing local issues is a great example of fine community programming for a 50,000 watts Newsradio station. The callers seem to be thrill to have a local outlet to voice their concerns on the local conditions. I am sure the listeners are thrill as well to receive the local live-updated information. Too bad this is only temporary for this time slot.

I listened as well. It was great! This was a very smart move.

So much for the constant slamming of WHAS. They showed the ability to adjust to LOCAL conditions.

And all the talk about WGTK trying to sign him? It's folly- they're a 100% syndicated, low-budget operation. He'd never stoop to working for such a low rent group. For gosh sakes, even their *news* is canned from metro traffic. Yecch.

Salem has local host's in other markets. So 100% is inaccurate.

I think he ment that WGTK is all syndicated .. which it is...

But, indydood.. most all stations in Louisville get their "news" from Metro Networks.. FYI

I was responding to all the typical crap WHAS takes from all the board-op types posting here, yet they seem to be the only station in the market (perhaps the region) who actually has a fulltime news department. For some reason, there's this fascination with WGTK which IS 100% canned. Your point about where the local stations get their *news* is accurate- and disappointing.

I personally think Metro puts out a good product.

most all non-talk stations in this country use Metro, or at least their wire service...

for the most part they do... in Louisville they have some solid traffic reporters? The same traffic reporters have been there for a while.. I'm not sure who is in their news department...
