Joe FM Question

Is Airline Skate Center STILL open??

Lol, that's not my question, but the stillshot just popped up and it kind of blew me away. I used to skate there and at Tradewinds on West 34th when I was a kid. Man, that's been over 40 years now.

The question I pose, Joe, is with all of these various ads now running on Joe FM, why don't any of them say something along the lines of "mention Joe FM when calling"? Seems like you'd want to receive credit for any new business that you are sending the companies you are running advertisements for. Just a thought that popped in mind as I listen to Pac-Man Fever by Buckner & Garcia.

Wow, Joe, some of the stuff you have in your library absolutely blows mine away. You are, by far, the greater music geek..er...aficionado, sir.

Ha! I do indeed. Too bad for the DJ who's bout it, because he's flat missing out. While you're leaving out hated songs, mine is "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Gos. That song should've went went 30 years ago.

If you really want to do themed weekends, I have a thought for a neat one, if you'd be interested. "The Million Dollar Dump Weekend" featuring all the old 80's gold like Camouflage, MCL, A Split Second, Lords of Acid, C.C.C.P., Book of Love, etc. Dade is touching a few of them on KGBC, here and there, but nothing like an all out resurrection of the old 6400 sound. I was always disappointed with The Point because it never delved into this specific foray of 80's music. They were always too busy cueing up Deep Blue Something and Matchbox 20.

So, no-go for the self plug on the ads? I'd want to know that my placement of the sponsored ads generated a share of business for the company running it. Gives you leverage to say, look these customers wouldn't necessarily be your customers had they not seen the ad on my channel, but it's your station, bud, I'm just throwing things out there. Perhaps I'm getting ahead of the game, and it's still a little early to roll something like that out. Just thought it might help your effort.

Bonus points if you know where the name of the weekend originally came from, Joe.

The reality is the listener/viewer does not remember. In sales, we call it a deal killer. If they manage to get anyone saying they say them on JoeTV, that is always never enough results for them to renew. In fact, at one restaurant, I got them to advertise the first time and they insisted on folks saying radio to get the lunch special for 1/3rd the price. Nobody said radio. Even though they sold out and had to turn people away, in the client's mind their record day was a fluke, not anything radio did because nobody demanded the 2/3rds off by simply saying radio. Nobody even asked or even mentioned something like I don't remember the code word for the special price.

Why is that? If you watch TV, read the paper and such, you must devote your full attention (not with JoeTV since the attraction is the music). In radio you might be driving or focusing on doing something else. It's enough to get the customer to your door but they're clueless about what got them there.

Haha oh that's right I'm watching JoeFm. I was so entertained watching the shows that I forgot what I was watching. It's very important to know what channel I'm watching. Unlike in radio I'm so bored listening to the music until they remind me of what station I'm listening to then I get all happy again lol.

Yeah, I saw them. You must really like djrage's Dirty Burgers, I've seen his stillshot run, then to RJ Plumbing, Dirty Burgers again, "I ", diabetes reversal, the ID, then Dirty Burgers again. Within 2 minutes!

Shoot, gimme a Dirty w/cheese and an order of buffalo fries, tah go...lol.

I didn't see a problem with the old ID, "Joe FM KZHO-LD 38.9 Houston" in the old 70s style font. It was perfectly legal from this perspective.

Edit to add: what the hell? I can't write in Mandarin! Frank!

As a longtime Houston digital tv user(I got my first tuner in 2002 at Circuit City) who recently got a new tv(with a tuner that doesn't suck in it) and started watching tv again I'm happy with all the channels available now OTA. I've listened to JoeFM a few times in the past month and overall it's a decent selection of music(although I personally can't stand Frampton and he seems to come on a lot).

I get that it's a low bitrate signal, but why is there so much distortion on static images? Is the encoder for the tv station just not all that great or is it being fed in with composite video or similar low quality connection? There is a lot of macroblocking and minor color changes happening which suggests come sort of analog connection to the encoder.

In any case, hope the station is going well and stays up for a while.
