Feel like I lost my grandfather.

Being a native of Cincinnati, I grew up listening to Joe. It wasn't until this past spring that I had the pleasure of meeting the Ol Left Hander. He and Marty and Thom Brennaman came to our radio stations to record some spots. He started chatting with me like he had known me for years. Genuine great guy! He will be missed!!

I just heard the new this morning. Now we just have to get him into the broadcasters hall of fame. I think I am going to cry.

He needs to be in the Hall of Fame. Maybe he can get there now. I get up listening to Joe on the radio. I heard him toward the end of his career but this is definitely a sad day in Cincinnnati sports history.

Such sad news. Many may not know or remember that Joe began his play-by-play career doing Miami University basketball games on Hamilton Radio Station WMOH. We'll miss you, Joe, but we'll remember you always.

As I reflect, he must've had a great influence on me getting into the business. I grew up listening to him on the radio, remember going to bed with a little transistor radio between my ear and the pillow so my mom wouldn't know that I was listening to the games on the west coast. He's the first radio personality to whom I recall ever paying attention. Agreed, Broadcasters Hall of Fame!

At the very least, they could possibly rename the broadcast booth in his honor, like some sports franchises have been known to do at the passing of some of their broadcasters.

I like the thought of the Reds renaming the broadcast booth for Nuxhall. classy move.

I am certain they will do something that is fitting to memorialize him this coming season. Castellini and company are all heart for Cincinnati and their heroes

Joe can converse with his Lutheran buddy, Jack Buck (who was an OSU grad, announcer and Columbus Red Wing baseball play by play man in his early days)....Harry, Jack, Joe, Mel, Lou and many greats 'live on the other side' of this relm... I think they should name the field after this lifelong Red.... I really think he'll get in "The Hall" as a broadcaster with a wonderful tribute to his early entry into the Red's pitching rotation (at 15)....


The youngest player of the 20th century to reach the majors, Nuxhall was an exceptionally promising schoolboy pitcher, signed by the Reds with special permission from his school principal. He was 15 years, 10 months, and 11 days old on June 10, 1944, when manager Bill McKechnie sent him in to pitch the ninth inning of a game....

I agreee...Joe is irreplacable. Naming the ballpark after him would be much more appropriate.

Nice tributes on WLW..especially McConnell staying local, and Scott Sloane playing the last inning that the ole lefthander called. There was always comfort in the fact that Marty and Joe would be there every summer, and even with not being the biggest sports fan ever, there was just something about that. RIP.

Well, whether you rename the booth or stadium, either, I think would be appropriate.

It seems like (and probably was the truth) that Joe's been on the radio calling Reds games practically my whole life. And, it really does feel like a part of me is gone now, too.

My sincerest sympathies to Joe's wife and family. Reds country has lost a pro...and we've lost a friend.

Joe deserves induction into the broadcast wing of the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Let's make it happen!

Joe was a great person. I had worked with him many time over the 20+ years that I worked in and around radio. He was always pleasent to be around and always had a smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

I'm bummed that I never got to meet Joe, but the four hours I spent last night at the visitation made up the wisest time investment I've made since moving here a few years ago.

Gonna miss him.
