Hey Joe, you left out how much you're paying for a gallon of gas and what you had for breakfast this morning!

Joe:

You and I have never met… But I’ve been reading your postings and I been pulling for you brother. I left radio in 2000 and opened the Radio Deli… had enough of that… and here it is 8 years later and I am back in the biz.

Getting out of the studio though unnerving at first, will eventually remind you that you can be you… without the job. Being on the air…. Isn’t air… you can still breathe without radio. And somewhere in the murky confusion you wind up meeting yourself. The work you are doing now with handicapped folks… that’s real work… You are doing something good (which I am sure that you are making better by bringing your compassion to the table)

Think about it this way… Radio is the only business that I can name that uses the passion of it’s practitioners against them. It’s as if the mission statement of most radio station management reads like this: “there’s a hundred people lined up to do your job for less… so you better feel the pee on your back and tell me it’s raining”. And now you are in a world that says: “You care about what you are doing and it matters”.

Being outside the bubble of the studio puts you in the real world up to your neck. And as you get a little bit down the road you’ll say to yourself “Now that I’ve been out here in the world, I know that if I were back on the air… I would be better than ever”. And you would be right, because experiencing the richness of life outside the studio can only add depth to your performance.

Someday, you may find yourself walking into a radio station… make sure you go back in on your own terms. And know this brother, radio is beginning to realize that they need broadcasters who have depth and know how to relate to listeners out in the real world… And that my man puts you in a great position.

Keep the Faith,

Louie Manno AKA The Brooklyn Buckaroo.

To add a little more to louiemanno's comments:

Radio has always been regarded as a theatre of the mind! Perhaps this applies to current salary structure as well? Especially when we approach a PD or GM for a raise? ???

Good for you Joe!

Working with those that have far less then us, those that struggle everyday to do what we take for granted, will give you a whole new and wonderful perspective on life. ;D

And as a sidenote, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Lay off the yogurt and put something good in your belly.

Thank you!
Were having Chicken/Potatoes/Carrots
Peas for dinner and cheese cake for dessert
Plus I'm working on 3-30 sec spots over
the weekend that pay $175 Dollars
So as I said There is "LIFE" after radio!
as the LATE "COUSIN" BOB" would say
GOD LUV YA! Yaaa!!
