Joe McCoy on WICC Saturday Nights

He sounds terrific. It is WCBS-FM the way it ought to be. Does anyone know if this is a one time appearance for Joe or will he be on permanently?

Thanks

Bruce

The show sounds great! Mostly pre-'64 music.

I believe this is the debut of a weekly show that is to air Saturday nights 6-9pm on WICC.

I listened last night. Joe, of course was the legendary programmer of CBS FM during it's glory years and his show sounds like the old CBS-FM. It's live, local and he plays music no one would even touch on commercial radio. It was great! Congrats to Joe McCoy and WICC for putting on programming that actually targets older listeners. WICC is a very good sounding full service AC and it's nice a program like this is on.

I wouldn't call WICC full service AC. It's more like bird-fed syndicated talk with a couple of local shows, along with some specialy shows thrown in on the weekend (in dead time slots) for good measure.

It is run like WXKW (NJ1015). Talk all week and on week-ends "The Music Comes out to play".

Joe had been on a few stations here in Connecticut prior to moving to the big city. Somewhere I had an aircheck of him on the pre-99X WOR-FM. He still sounds the same, a consummate professional who hasn't skipped a beat.

Some month ago I got to sit in the studio while he did an interview with the co-writer of "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" and lead singer of the group Steam, Gary Decarlo. Joe's got the talent, that's for sure.

I did listened to the show Saturday Night and it was great. I recorded the first show using my reel-to-reel tape recorder just for the first show in 2 parts hooked up directly to my iPod Touch using my iHeartRadio app to stream this show. Joe McCoy was a great PD at WCBS-FM from 1981 until he left in 2004 after 23 years as the legendary PD that brought Bruce Morrow, Ron Lundy, Harry Harrison, Dan Ingram, Dan Taylor, Bob Shannon and many others to the format. They played lots of oldies, the same music that you will hear on WGNY-FM's "Fox Oldies" in the Poughkeepsie area right now playing the music like Joe McCoy played it on WICC every Saturday night. Joe McCoy did a Yankees talk show on WAVZ when it's an ESPN Radio affiliate in New Haven, CT and it was heard every Saturday mornings during the regular season. I guess he is going to be on different shifts for the next year for the 2014 Yankees season.

Good job for WICC for bringing Joe McCoy to the station. Just to remember that Joe McCoy did a special show on CBS-FM last year as part of the 40th anniversary weekend, and he did a great job with it. I hope he will do better like the way Mark Simone did on WABC a few years back when he did the "Saturday Night Oldies" show from 2005 until the end of 2012 where he moved to WOR in middays instead of playing the music.

I was listening to WICC last night and I've just noticed that Joe McCoy is not on the radio. What happened? I was going to record this week's show and they're playing nothing but automated music. Is Joe McCoy doing one show on Saturday or maybe they will played automated music. I guess Joe McCoy only had one try to do his show, and that was it. Is Joe McCoy coming back to WICC? Time will tell.

For the second week in a row on Saturday evening WICC played oldies without a DJ. I think it is safe to assume that Joe McCoy's appearance was a one time event.

I can't comment officially, but I've been told Joe will appear once a month, with next week being his re-appearance on Saturday night. YMMV.

Thanks! I only have an aircheck of Joe McCoy's special show on WICC a few weeks ago which I posted. Joe McCoy was on for only one time, but he will never come back to do another show. As of now, everything is jockless for now and "Jukebox Saturday Night" was replaced with the return of the "Oh Wow Oldies Show". Joe was on for only once, but not every week.
