I don't believe the Osteen's have any ownership in KSBJ. If memory serves me correctly, though, I believe it was Osteen money that put Channel 55 on the air...perhaps a cousin or an uncle of Joel's.
Osteen outright owns Channel 55 or owned it. I think he sold it not long ago or there is a sale in progress, but he (Lakewood Church) was the owner of it.
Yes, Osteen's money (I should have been a TV preacher...they ALWAYS have the money) helped put 55 on...
it was originally a LPTV planned for Conroe only...but Osteen's money (I think it was his dad) got into the mix and it became a full power station.....and ended up on the Splendora tower originally built by US Radio for 106.9 (Reagan Henry was the one behind US Radio)....when Salem bought the station from him after he lost his funds (the balloon notes became due on 40+ of his 47 stations and he didnt have the cash), Salem then swapped 106.9 to COX for a station in Atlanta. 55 was already on the tower and has stayed there...(even though their digital is in the Mo City antenna farm)....They were planning on moving 55 analog there but I think that went away.
Even though I pretty much avoid religious broadcasters, it would be interesting to see what kind of station Osteen would run. However I have the feeling that any Houston operation would be via a leased signal. Cumulus or Liberman, are you interested?
