Joel Whitburn, Music Historian

Just saw that Joel Whitburn, who wrote the book on Billboard #1 hits, passed away today at age 82:

Like many people in radio, I have my copy of his book.
There are dozens of Whitburn books.

There are nearly 100 still in print right now at Home - Record Research

For those who have not seen a "Whitburn book", the site is well done. Be sure to look at the sample pages for each book to see the amazing detail in each publication.

I hope Joel's staff continues the project as it is invaluable in so many ways.

I loved his books. Just total factual results on how songs charted. I still use them for context today. If it wasn’t for him who would know that “Captain of her heart” by a group called “Double” made it to number 16 in ‘86. I am just using this as an example of course. But his stats were right on the mark.
