Boston Randy nailed it!
I quote, from another thread:
"The point being is: as air talent, many of us have, to a certain extent, a bit of an ego. Those of us who are able to put it aside to work regular jobs can survive without radio. Decent paying jobs are few and far between and, although I'm not making killer money, I'm doing just fine without being a full-time radio guy. It can be a tough transition but, in the long run, it's worth it."
Radio was something I fell in love with at an early age-- it wasn't about being a superstar, it was about a disembodied voice coming out of a pair of speakers, creating "theater of the mind"....it was about entertaining, and being creative, not getting your pictures on the wall, or on a website- although those were nice perks, and ego stroking.... Although some egos are larger than others, it would seem....
I did well in radio for the time I was in it- What a ride!
And while I don't wish anyone struggling to pay thier bills when they lose their job (and I've been there), I wish all the best to
Charlie Jefferds all the best.....he's in the same league as Salty Brine.....truly a nice guy. The type I wanted to be like- like Salty, Chuck Stevens, David Simpson, etc...
BUT, I will say one final thing about all the other so called radio "superstars" that I have known in my lifetime---
Karma is as Karma does.
