Nobody gets it, Jeff......the posting from TopofthePops right after yours PROVES that noone is listening to the very few voices of reason on this messageboard! It's Fantasyland, here....

I can't say that I blame people like TopofthePops....always hopeful?

I say let Steve Conti build anyone who wants it, their own low power FM radio station in their grandmother's basement- and then EVERYONE who wants to play PD here on radio-info can REALLY play PD...

And then we can all grab a part time job spinning the hits at the local nudie bar! :)

If we're at a point where it's no more than needing a creative outlet for some people who accept that the business is doomed for many, then setting up your own low power station or something online isn't a bad idea. Let's face it, the reason so many just stay with it even though they've really gotten nowhere in years is they need to do it for themselves.

When I heard Bristol on Lite near Christmas, I had a feeling something was going to be happening. I don't see them having anyone other than him doing it....

Great! The Ralphie Show voice tracked from market 70 to market 39 or whatever rank Providence has dropped to.Isn't anyone in Providence smart or good enough to voice track in other markets anymore?Doug Palmieri and Christine Fox used to be voice tracked in upstate New York.

I find it curious that the station that billed itself as "Citadel Broadcasting's Flagship Station" now has a voicetracked night shift from a smaller-market Citadel station...

wow, very sad news on Charlie, coming from RI he was always a jock i admired, anyone know if he was allowed to have some kind of proper goodbye?

and a bigger wow thumbs down for PRO voicetracking nights, shame really, down shame. and from a market like that? pffft

Unless Charlie Jefferds wanted it downplayed himself they should've handled his exit like they did Gary DeGraide. This is someone in the RI Radio Hall Of Fame that's been around for decades. I am even surprised other media like TV and newspaper haven't done a story on it

All the large radio companies are trying to pay off those large debt loads from that great idea of the 90's called consolidation. We're well past the beginning of the end for radio, and it makes me glad I chose not to continue my career in the field when I did. It's too bad that great personalities like Charlie are being shown the door when what killed the medium was lack of foresight, lack of creativity, and pure greed. Oh well... wait until those people meters become the main mechanism for ratings - that's when the next s#$tstorm will begin. People meters will notice folks NOT tuning in to the voice tracked shifts from Syracuse at night.

Radio used to be cool...

Probably the reason newspapers (which would only be the journal) and TV hasn't covered the story, is they too have had many cutbacks, and reporters there are wearing many hats covering many different stories. Remember when the Journal had John Martin and before him Tony Liosei (sp?) for morning Journal and evening Bulletin who only covered radio & TV? Looking back Tony always gave me credit when it was due, but spelled my name wrong (with an E, not an A) while John never gave me credit or anything positive, but did spell my name correctly. If not for the above reasons, perhaps thru the years, radio has shot itself with so much cost cutting, voice tracking, layoffs, etc, it is no longer considered a news story. Sad, after all the years a personality like Charlie didn't have the opportunity as I did, and Gary DeGraide did to say thanks to all the loyal listeners and goodbye. I'm sure if he were given the opportunity, he, as a gentleman would have in a very professional manner. JG

Ironic that the Citadel stations were the ones who offered Arlene Violet a chance to come on the air and bid farewell. They also put Joan Edwardsen on with Jones at least once. Neither had a chance to say goodbye on the air at Clear Channel and I'm sure the Citadel moves were a statement. Now Citadel had a chance to let Charlie say goodbye but they made a different kind of statement.

Having had the pleasure of working with Charlie Jefferds at WPRO back in 1987, I have to say that he's one of the finest gentlemen that I have ever met in this business (since 1978). It's a real loss for Rhode Island radio...next stop for Charlie, the RI Radio Hall of Fame!!

He's already there....class of 2008

Because those that have been around long enough to know anything about the history of the market have been weeded out or will be in the near future.New ones hired just have no concept. Then again the chance of Ed Mc Mann,Valerie Scott,Ryan Seacrest,or "Ralphie"showing up is limited.

Hey wknd92,

Can you please give me the link to the RI HOF?

http://www.rhodeislandradiohalloffame.org/

Class of 2009 has been selected; but not announced yet. Going to be a GREAT class like last year with a couple of surprises!

Kind of odd that not many known air people are associates. Some names there ring a bell but still, you would thinl...
There may be those who are associate members who do not wish to have their name publicized
