John and Ken replacing Savage on his flagship station

I doubt that they are too enthralled with this as well. They now are up to 5 hours a day with the departure of Dr. Laura and everyone knows they are at their best when they do local stories. It is hard to do a story on Tony Villar when nobody in SF will care, just as I as an LA listener don't care what Gavin Newsome is doing as San Francisco's mayor.

Also, I think both John and Ken and Bill Handel will suffer reductions in the quality of their shows. 25 hours a week is simply too many to do continuous compelling radio. The difference probably will not be noticeable at first, but it will surely show itself as time goes on.That kind of grind is just too much not to.

The one positive is this really increases John and Ken's clout in Sacramento. This is not a good day for legislators in Sacramento as the two loudest voices against them just became a whole lot louder. If they play this right, they could really be a political force to be reckoned with.

This may be new to talk radio hosts, but there are air-talent all over Clear Channel that are burning out from all of the long hours. Look at how many full-time talent are doing weekend shifts on top of all of their regular work now, it's insane and it brings the quality level down to that of a small or medium market. Major markets like LA used to be the pinnacle of an air-talent's career. You had to pay dues in smaller markets, but you worked shorter hours on the air because you were expected to perform at a higher level that those in smaller markets. Now it hard to tell the difference between markets.

John and Ken are as sincere as a whore in the confessional, however so long as they portray themselves as a voice against the political hacks in Sacramento we must take what we can get. I doubt though that they will be a hit in San Francisco; I am surprised that they let Micheal Savage air there without daily pickets in front of the stations. Maybe they will see J & K as the entertaining curiosity that they are and let them slide. Even people who wanted to appear prim and proper couldn't resist sneaking a listen to Howard Stern.

You should not worry about the dynamic due burning out though they already replay the first hour or so of the show near or at the end on many days.

I can't see how being on San Francisco's low rated KNEW increases John and Ken's clout in Sacramento. It would be different if they were heard on KFBK or KSTE in Sacto.

The Bay Area and Sacto are separate media markets. About 90 miles separates the two cities, and some SF AM stations come in well - notably flamethrower KGO. I'm not sure about KNEW's signal, but I doubt many listeners in the capital city are going to check out KNEW, which barely registers in the ratings in the Bay Area.

On the other hand, Bay Area Michael Savage fans (yes, there are conservatives there) will be tuning in their guy on Sacto's KSTE, which can be heard - with a little crackling and interference) in East Bay and San Francisco...at least until Savage gets a new radio home in SF.

KNEW doesn't come in very well in Sacramento anymore. Back in the 70's you could pick it up with a good radio and antenna, but now, not so easy. As I recall J&K were syndicated in Sacramento years ago on KSTE.

John and Ken bore me. Their fake outrage every hour is a little stale. I guess people buy into it though. No way I could listen to them for hours and hours.

I have heard very little of Bill Handel's second show. It seems like it will be like his 7:00 and 8:00 - 8:30 hours in the morning, which are kind of dull. He shines when he has people like Hoffman and Rich to bounce ideas off of. I guess people like him since he has a show on the weekends by himself but his bread and butter are the Handel on the News segments where there is banter between the group.

I agree both shows will suffer over time.
