John Batchelor

Seven nights a week of Batchelor is too much imo. There should be a different Sunday night host like there used to be when Drudge hosted it. I never listen to Batchelor.

His show is different in that he never takes calls, and unlike Rush & other Conservative Talk hosts, he doesn't spend extended time offering his own opinions. It's all interviews, many about historical subjects, but some about current events. Some are interesting, some are not. But at least, unlike most hours on Talk Radio, it isn't all about how bad Obama and Democrats are, and how great Republicans are.

Many of his shows are prerecorded. I'm not a regular listener, so I don't know if his weekend shows are made up of interviews that aired during the week, or does he do new interviews off the air during the week for the Sat. & Sun. shows? On weeknights, sometimes his interviews have something to do with breaking news, so maybe he's there part of the evening on weeknights. But I suspect most of the time, his show is prerecorded. I think that's why he never takes phone calls.

Why is he on seven nights a week? I suppose so Cumulus only has to pay one salary. Some of his affiliated stations only take the weekend shows. Some run him Mon.-Fri. I'm not sure how many are like WABC NYC, running him every night.

Interesting that when Cumulus picked up Michael Savage after his split with his previous syndicator, they cut Batchelor down to two hours on weeknights. Then when Savage was moved to 3pm-6pm Eastern, Batchelor went back to four hours on weeknights. I wonder if his salary changed either time? And why does he say his name twice every time? "This is the John Batchelor Show. I'm John Batchelor." Isn't that egotistical? Who else would be hosting the John Batchelor Show?

Ironically Sunday night is often a time for breaking news. Drudge was live so he could cover it. But when there was no breaking news he'd spend the entire three hours cycling through the same few stories over and over.

Drudge did repeat himself, but I liked having a different host on Sundays.
