John Bolaris - WPHT Host?

There's word of the former Fox 29 meteorologist being "approached by Andy something (I'm assuming Andy Bloom) at CBS about hosting a conservative radio talk show." Bolaris admitted, "I'm not a conservative at all" - yet they still allowed him to host a live, local show on Monday night after the Phillies game.

So I guess this move means that CBS is taking IQ 106.9 seriously as a competitor?

Bolaris on 1210 is the best reason yet for me to stop listening to 1210. The politics doesn't matter; the guy is as dumb as a box of rocks.

I can't think of any reason, other then a favor to Howard Eskin (Eskin/Bloom & Eskin/Bolaris are good friends) why Bolaris would be hired at this station for anything other then weather reports.

I guess if Al Roker can transition from a weatherperson to a general talk show host, there's hope for Bolaris, if this is what he wants to do...

They should. IQ is going to sink WPHT like the Titanic. I haven't turned on WPHT since IQ debuted. Not even to listen to Rush. I'll catch Rush again when he moves over. I'm staying loyal to the station that brought back Glenn and Sean.

That's fine but why isn't anyone talking about night time programming? Three weeks in and they are still running Sean after 6. Is this the best they can do? If they are going to eventually pick up a syndicated program for the 6-9 PM slot, can they at least do something besides re-play Hannity in the interim?

Do you people have the slightest clue how radio works? You don't just decide to run a show and then run it. There are contracts to be signed, arrangements to be made, start/end dates to be adhered to.

I give IQ all the credit in the world for even ATTEMPTING to present the Philly area with a new station and have no doubt that once the kinks wear out, they'll be a force in the market. Building a station from the ground up - WHILE TRYING TO DO IT ON-AIR - is not easy, and using the "warts-and-all" approach is refreshing.

Instead of KYW's teletype background, they out to have the sound of distant hammers and saws going!
