John Catsimatidis Will be Acquiring another Station

And I should add that Curtis Sliwa and Anthony Weiner may have to silence their mics soon as both are planning to enter the 2025 NYC municipal election cycle–Sliwa for Mayor as a Republican (again) and Weiner for City Council as a Democrat, this time from Manhattan (he previously represented Brooklyn in the Council before he was elected to Congress). Catsimatidis himself was said to be mulling a second run for City Hall, but it looks like that's not happening.
It appears that Frank Morano may be heading in that direction also. He's mulling a run for NYC City Council, for a Staten Island district currently held by a term-limited Republican, Joseph Borelli–which would mean goodbye to "The Other Side of Midnight".

According to this campaign website, he intends to make known his final plans very soon. Not only are there filing and fundraising deadlines to be met, his affiliates like WGN, KMOX and WCCO need to decide what they're gonna do if he does leave.

I don't get why hed do all that work to build a show get syndicated then just leave it for a chance to be city council member when he probably wont get those affiliates back if he doesn't win that seat and wants to go back to doing the show unless they have someone take over the show in his absence.

First, Morano has always been political. After years of being urged to run for office, now may be the right time for him to jump in. The climate is favorable to him: The council district is a safe Republican stronghold; he has the backing of Catsimatidis on-air and financially; and he supports the incoming president.

As far as the radio show goes, who replaces him will be key. My first thought would be Sliwa but he's committed to his run for Mayor. I don't know how deep the bench is at WABC that would prevent them from having to hire from outside for Morano's replacement.

James Golden would come to mind. Or maybe Rich Valdez's Westwood One show (albeit that's only live from 10pm-1am)? Valdez hasn't had a NYC clear since WFAS died and he was a WABC host before taking over for Jim Bohannon.

Cats doesn't like using outside syndication because he himself is a syndicator. So if he was to use Valdez, he'd hire him directly.
Totally unrelated but it perplexes me as to why Mark Levin even remains on the schedule at this point.

Golden might be the best option especially if Cats just doesn't want the overnight show to go away (I doubt he would). Or have Dominic Carter for five hours straight.

My take is that the hosts who are running for political office will fight the rule that they can't stay on the radio the way Spadea is doing it in NJ.

These folks don't like rules especially from government. That's part of their brand. Cats is also thinking about running for mayor, and I can't imagine him ending his own radio show to run for mayor. At least without a fight.

I doubt Cats will run at this point. If Sliwa weren't running **and weren't an employee of his** it may be a different story. But he'll be more than happy to support both Sliwa and Morano with airtime and campaign contributions.

And I have doubts that the new FCC is going to be interested in monitoring equal time rules, especially if it's going to take time away from voices they like. But we shall see.

Why would he leave westwood one who he already is under contract with to do a show on way less stations.... Its not as simple as oh maybe they'll just get rich valdez to do the show it doesn't work like that. Secondly why would wabc give up their own show they own and syndicate to air a show that they would have to pay to air.

Remember, most FCC infractions or violations are pursued because someone has filed an official complaint.

Yes, a few infractions are found when the "Public File" is examined, but it takes a real complaint to get the gears moving at the FCC.

The Mark Levin Show has lots of listeners and draws very high ratings..

In which markets?
Good question. "Very high ratings" is a blanket statement... but if I were to see it made, I'd assume that the reference would be to AQH shares in the 5 and above range... at least.

I can't see any market where the show gests anywhere near that kind of number.
