John DePetro Finding His Groove

Seems like John DePetro has finally found his grove in Boston. Took a while to disassociate himself from his years in Rhode Island but in the past month his program has been breaking and making local news. DePetro is even being mentioned in the Boston Globe. That is an accomplishment in itself.
Guess time on task is the best teacher. Wish him continued succss and ratings.

How's his accent? And production?

How's his accent doing? And his the production for his show?

Couldn't agree with you more. Disregarding the regional accent, which I think is okay if you want to do local talk radio, he is stuck between reaming hapless callers, acting like a junior high school bully and kissing butt when he has a good mark from the policital/public world who can take it. He is too afraid to nudge somebody who can really take him on.

I am still amazed he is on. I am truly disgusted with RKO. I have been listening for 20 years at least. They got me hooked in high school, and find myself listening less and less. It is sad. I can't understand how they can expect to boost ratings by losing their core audience.

How much money do they pay these people to make decisions like the Morning Kinetic Frenzy? It is like when you watch a new TV series, and you can't believe this thing actually made it on a program schedule. Didn't somebody on this board say that RKO was going to begin to change to make the station something decent again? Their best stuff is sydicated now save for the afternoon. How do these stations expect to stave off satellite radio when they are becoming as generic as the competition?

Both are still TERRIBLE. In my travels, I have heard much better hosts - in much smaller markets.

It amazes me that, every so often on this board, someone posts how Depetro is "finding his groove." No he's not! He has not improved significantly and the ratings show it.

He just doesn't have any "pipes". Not to mention that he is rude to many of the callers and loses his temper waaaaay too quickly. Yelling and screaming. Very unprofessional. And that awful Wo-wick townie accent! Hardly a sound befitting a regular host on the leading talk station in Boston.

Pat Whitley, as old as he sounded, did a much finer job. I am sure that WRKO must has plenty of tapes and resumes with prospective talk show hosts who actually sound good. People who would LOVE to get a gig in a top 10 market. For Heaven's sake, use one of them in the 9-12 slot!!

As for Depetro, maybe there's a little AM station somewhere in Quahog that likes his sound.

Re: How's his accent? And production?

Maybe I am just getting used to his Rhode Island accent as terrible as it is. The only thing I was noting is that he was tapping into the local pols more than he did before and they were responding. Perhaps, that has more to do with Brian Whittimore than DePetro. Still, the morning show is sadly unlistenable. They are wasting Scott Allen Miller's talent.
