John Depetro's moment to shine

John Depetro seems to be doing a good job with the latest Big Dig tragedy.

Will he be able to provide the audience with information and objective opinion?

Could this be a defining moment for Depetro?

The Real Story: Where Was Governor Mitt Romney and Lt. Gov. Murphy for 13 Hours

The mistake DePetro is making is laying the blame sole on the door of Matt Amarillo. Most of that part of the Big Dig was built when Amarillo was not at the Big Dig.

The BIG question which John does not seem to address is that Governor Mitt Romney was MIA AGAIN when this tragedy struck.

Romney just returned from a presidential campaign junket and apparently stayed only long enough to veto some bill. Then Romney disappeared again. He won't be back until at 12:30 Press Conference.
That is 13 Hours AFTER the tragedy.

And where was Muffie Healy?

Enough of absentees governors and Lt. Governors.

DePetro better pick up that end of the story or he will come off as another Romney flack.

Dukakis was on Cavuto's show yesterday and admitted that he too, like Romney, was frequently out of the state during his Presidential campaign. And Dukakis' former Lt. Governor ran for Pres. in '04 and missed a lot
of Senate votes (yup, him). Clinton in '92 and Gore in '00 did not resign their then-current positions when they ran. Some feel you can do both.

Both parties stink, and this bipartisan boondoggle is ridiculous. Why is it that when I drive back from visiting my Dad on the Cape and there's a brief rainstorm, it takes almost 4 hours to make it back to Beverly (90 miles
or so)?

I think the Mittster should step down and put Muffy in charge. He'll have more time to campaign and she'll
get a head start on this year's campaign. (I can boast that the Acting Governor lives down the street from me.) Or maybe he'll stay in office like the other guys before him did.

A link to Feinburg's interview with Amorello is on the WRKO site.

I couldn't even imagine listening to that hack talk about the tunnel. Who did he blame it on, gay who want to get married? He's a one trick pony.

meanwhile, an effort is made to put some competent people on the Mass Turnpike board and force Fat
Matt out of power, but it's thwarted by a last minute "rules change" backed by our 88-per-cent Democratic
legislature. I could swear through all this lightning and thunder I could hear a voice from talk show heaven:
"hacks, cronies, corruption..." Had to be Jerry, still as mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

you're forgeting what happened last night and giving us the political spin. kind of like
what mitt's press conference was all about. it was disgusting political theater at the
expense of public safety issues.

matt is not a problem here. undoubdtedly he'll be a fall guy but he's not a problem.
that's how boston media and specifically wrko already painted this picture.
all mitt wants to do is put his own high-paid bureaucrat in matt's place.
mitt filled enough hack jobs with his own people during his term

Even Howie Carr was quoting the late great Jerry Williams today...without attribution of course - that all the official hide "like cockroaches" when you put the light on.
Jerry was right about the Big Dig 20 years ago as he was right about so many things.

Joe, I thought you hate Depetro... and live for WBUR and Air America. Now its Depetro's time to shine? Are you just playing talk host with people here?

I tuned in today and noted that Depetro, who is a sub-standard host not worthy of Boston airtime, did a decent job with the situation and was cognizant of the tragedy. The question is - after all the money RKO has invested in Depetro, is he ready for prime time when a significant news story is breaking. (he puts in statement form without question mark as it is somewhat rhetorical) The jury is still out, but this is - quite arguably - one of the biggest moments Depetro has had on Boston radio. I say arguably because, of course, it is just one person's opinion - mine!

He was pretty good today, certainly better than E&B cracking jokes before the body is cold.

It's hard to say whether or not he's ready for prime time. Usually I'll catch a few consecutive shows, and he's doing well, then he does topics like American Idol or some other non-important gossip/rubbish.

I do enjoy when he has a caller on with one viewpoint, then he brings on another caller with an opposing view, rings the bell and lets them get into it -- now that's good radio. He also gets good guests.

My biggest complaint is with the production. It sounds like he's way too close to the mic. You can hear lip-smacking, which is NOT good radio.

Speaking of too close to the mic, and I know I'm hanging a left and heading off the topic, but why do I have to turn up my radio to hear Jimmy Myers in the morning? It sounds like he's just too far away from the mic.

Sounds like tomorrow 'RKO will offer more expanded talk about the tunnel tragedy. I guess Howie will again start at 2 pm and I wonder if DePetro will run till 2...I think Rush just has fill-in hosts, as it is.

Note to INTERcom99: What you meant to say was: Joe Viglione tunes OUT WRKO again.

Did Joseph Patrick Kennedy ever think that his RKO would become the name of a radio station which would end up dissing his son Ted so many decades later?

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0448132/bio

"Through "financial engineering" of these companies - some of their pieces went into a new major studio, RKO - Kennedy added to his already substantial fortune."

I caught the tail end of Depetro today and the funniest thing I heard was when he got all confused about talking into the mic or the bullhorn he was using, and said goodbye to Howie through the bullhorn instead of into the mic after their crossover, and that wasn't realy that funny. Sometimes I guess we just have to laugh at, not with.
