John Gambling vacation all this week is an absolute outrage!

Before people jump down my throat let me say that I have the utmost respect and admiration for the great John Gambling. Let me also say that if anyone deserves time off it is the great John Gambling who has worked hard and earned time off. JUST NOT THIS WEEK! In case nobody has noticed the Republican National Convention is this week and as such it is considered a major event for the conservative movement. Tonight in particular is of major import for Mccain to prove himself in front of the American people and make his case. I can't begin to articulate the major depths of my rage over Gambling's actions this week. It won't alter my respect for the man but I feel that he has betrayed his loyal fan base. I have been in a foul mood all week long due to Gambling's absence to the point that I have just been going through the motions of each day without actually getting any pleasure from life. Like I said Gambling deserves a vacation but it should have been next week after the conventions. Let me put it this way. In every profession when a major event occurs or is set to occur unless you are sick it is highly frowned upon to take time off. For instance if you are a teacher and it is two weeks away from Regents exams you damn well know you don't get to take a few days off. If you are a Magazine publisher and you have a major holiday edition coming out you damn well don't take time off until the Holiday edition is put to bed. If you are a Jeweler and you are in the middle of the Christmas Rush you don't get to take time off.

IF YOU ARE A POLITICAL COMMENTATOR YOU SHOULD NOT BE TAKING TIME OFF DURING THE MOST MAJOR POLITICAL EVENT OF THE SEASON OTHER THAN THE ELECTION ITSELF!!!!

p.s: this is not in any way shape or form a criticism on Gambling who is one of the best in the business but a direct critique of his professional judgment this time around.

You've been in a foul mood and not getting any pleasure from life because a radio host is on vacation?...Wow!...No wonder radio broadcasters have such huge egos!...

LIradiofan226: You need to take a chill pill, take a deep breath and relax. Whether Gambling takes his vacation in the midst of the RNC or not is beside the point. Like most other talk hosts and music jocks, Gambling needs to get his vacation time in because he will not be allowed to do so during an Arbitron book period - a very common practice in most markets of the radio business. And the Fall book period is upon us. During a book period, you only get time off for illness or emergency/family issues. If Mr. Gambling chose to take his vaca during RNC week, that's his business.

For the last couple of decades, give or take a year or so, NY has been under continuous measurement, meaning the only times that the market was not being measured was a couple of weeks between mid december and early January and a week between Spring and Summer.

Today, there is no non-rated day, week or month. And there is no Fall book in New York, nor was there a Summer one. We now have a June book, a July one, an August one, a September one, etc... 13 books per year.
