John Gilliland - The Pop Chronicles

I mentioned a while back that I had come across a few reel-to-reel copies of John Gilliland's Pop Chronicles. I digitized and remastered a 75-minute segment from his 1972 "The Pop Chronicles Presents The Forties" twelve-hour spectacular, which you may tune in to at:

Comments, corrections and clarifications would be appreciated here.

Happy New Year, and enjoy!

Fascinating! I like his segues and the tight production values. The sound bites are very good, and his characterization of the time is also very good.

The music is for the most part horrible in my opinion, and I'm speaking as a fan of a lot of the music of the era. One listen to this show will make it clear why R&B, rockabilly and rock and roll swept the nation like a plague of locusts. Who could possibly bear Dinah Shore's offkey singing and bland material anymore?

Thanks for restoring this piece!

Thanks DJ. I added a link to your page to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_Chronicles (the wikipedia page on the Pop Chronicles). Since it's a wikipedia page, anyone is welcome to add or correct anything.

So let me ask in this thread if anyone recognizes either of the unidentified people in the photo there? If so, could you post their names here, OR just correct the page? Thanks.

But I must say that I agree with David about the music I've heard so far on your segment.
